Can Cake Batter Be Saved?

I just made the most amazing Chocolate Cake and have some batter left over. I don't want to throw it away. Can I cover it and put it in the fridge or something like that?

Tried that--it really doesn't work. Just make up some cupcakes or a small cake, depending on what you have left. You can always freeze the finished cupcakes or cake if you don't plan on using it today. I don't know why it doesn't keep--I think the oomph from the baking powder fizzles or something. But that's just a guess.

Between the baking powder breakdown and the breakdown of the eggs, saving batter just doesn't work. I'm with lotsoftots, I bake my leftovers in mini bunt cake pan. DH eats them before I can do anything with them.
