Anyone out there know how to put together a cake made out of cupcakes? Does this make sense? I thought I saw somewhere a cake that frosted all over the top but apparently was cupcakes underneath. Was I just seeing things? Thanks for the help.

How do you frost them without having any gaps between the cupcakes?

you put them as close together as you can get then and you add a bit of frosting to your gaps and then you frost the whole top.... I dont do them there is a few girls on here that do them all of the time.. Cali4dawn I thought did a step by step on this and I just went to her site and I cant find it so maybe she is able to help you once she see this message... Or any of the others that do them ..

Not sure if you have seen this magazine, but Taste of Home magazine, just posted a couple of ideas for cupcake cakes...one was an elmo. She used pink icing...I would have used red, but the idea was there.

My first ccc was fun and different. Don't forget in order to ice the tops with out them moving, dab a little of icing to the bottoms so that they won't move. then once you position them where you want them it's smooth sailing.. Don't let the gaps scare you. Once you start icing you'll see that you won't even notice they are there.. Oh yeah, don't forget to make sure your cupcakes are even. If not just cut a little off the tops to make them all even. If you click my photos you'll see a sleep over cake in there, that was my first CCC. Good Luck and Have fun!

Brenda's book is no longer in print (I wanted to order a copy for a friend but couldn't). That's why I made the tutorial.

You're right Dawn. She did stop selling it for a while but it's for sale again. If you still wanted to order a copy you could now.

Thanks for all your help on this! With 2 little ones at home cupcakes are a big hit around here. I thought this also would be a fun cake to try to take to daycare. They love trying out my practice cakes!

They are even great for adults.... I send them to the police station all the time. Cops can grab and run. They don't have time to slice and eat with a fork.

Thanks for the info Vickie... now that I've done the tutorial, my friend is already on her way...

By the way Dawn your tutorials are so helpful! I print them out and put them in my cake notebook to refer back to all the time. Thanks for all the time you've put into them!

Dawn,

I too love your tutorials...I've already used two of them! I just wanted to let you know that they are worthwhile and very appreciated.

Now if only I could do that figure eight border...do you mind letting me know what tip you use? I've tried it twice and I had to scrape it off and do my plain old shells.

I use whatever size tip I need in relation to the cake size. For most cakes it's a 22. The secret is to squeeze hard and lift fast- you want an really pointy peak left behind.

The faster you do this, the better they look.
