ok..

a sketch for you...

three main parts....

the roller -- backed in some type of tube pan (soup can? coffee can for a really big cake?)

the cab....just regular cake layers stacked and carved (and dowel down the middle)

the back end... I'd take round layer and split in half or even quarters and carve the shape. is should narrow in a bit toward its rear end.

for wheels -- section of cake baked in tube pan or cut from layer or big donuts (crullers covered in chocolate????)

under the cab is a little round piece...this is where the roller and back end all connect up. I'd hold up the cab by getting a really thick dowel (like 1 in) and affixing to cake base then glue board shape of bottom of cab to it. then set cab on it. then use that dowel to also help hold up the gumpaste frame around the roller. paint the dowel black so it seems to not be there.

OK. I'we got to say this.Doug you are awesome. Everytime someone comes up with a problem that seems almost imposible to me.You come in and TA-DA,fix it.At first when I saw this thread I tought. Now I can't to see who is going to pull this one out.Your sketches are so awesome and simple. You simply turn something almost imposible into something so simple.I think you deserve the spot light again.Way to go.
