I had saw on one photo in the galleries, the decorator said that she made the cakes using a cup and cut them. Am I assuming right that it was just a sheet cake and she cut them with a cup like you would use a cookie cutter?

I have used both. I just baked a sheet cake and used the cookie cutter or cup and cut my circles. I works beautifully.

thanks. my hubby and i just bought a new house recently, and I liked that idea and using it to introduce myself to the neighbors.

That is a really neat idea. I stacked two circles on top of each other and made miniature tiered cakes.
Good luck!

Here's an idea - Use a tin can to do the same thing:

If you happen to have one of those extremely handy safety can openers that take the lid and the rim off (and they leave NO sharp edges, hence the name "safety" opener) you get just the can's sides if you take off both ends. Then you can use it just like a cookie cutter.

Depending on your need, you could maybe use a tomato paste can and a soup can and a coffee can to get three sizes and build mini stacked cakes.
