I have found a recipe for the above mentioned cookies and it calls for crystallized ginger. Is this the same thing as candied ginger or are they 2 completely different items? The reviews on this cookie are amazing and I LOVE ginger cookies so I really want to try these.

Any ideas?

BTW- I found the recipe at epicurious.com and the reviews are almost all 4 forks out of 4! They gotta be good!

Actually there two different things.
You can make crystallized ginger home by peeling and cuuting the ginger into disks than boiling them in a mixture of water and sugar until transparent.
It 's best to use young ginger ....you can find them in asian grocery stores

Candied ginger is a preserve.
