My birthday is tomorrow, and if I want cake, I'll be the one baking and decorating it. I don't mind, really, but I'm curious if anyone else does their own birthday cake.

I've had to do my own cakes too...my DH used to decorate cakes at the supermarket when he was in high school, but he is not very good with the baking part!

Yep - that's the only way I get cake too! I decorated myself a cute one for work!! Nobody else was brave enough to do it...since I have been bringing cakes in! icon_biggrin.gif

My DH always makes mine, it's a big deal to him. He makes a box mix (no doctoring) with store bought frosting(sloppy)...but it's always special and delicious because he does it just for me.
I make all the birthday cakes for work...well I didn't make my own and nobody even NOTICED it was my birthday all day. Thank goodness I have something nice to go home to!

Not to sound pathetic but I didn't get a cake this year. A few years ago I made myself a cake and took it to my dd's for after dinner dessert. She gave me this funny look and then I found out my dh had ordered one from the grocery bakery and she'd picked it up for him. Soo we had two cakes. That was the first and last time I've made myself a b-day cake. Since then there's been no cake for me. Guess I'm a bad girl. Funny tho how I'm the one who makes cakes for family members. Oh well........ story of my life. My birthday has never been special. I know, poor Carol.

I make my own birthday cakes sometimes. If I want to I just tell my mom and she doesn't have a problem with it. I use it as a good excuse to try out something new (hence the topsy turvey cake last year)

However if I didn't make one or my mom didn't get me one I wouldn't have one. There is a local mom and pop grocery store that she orders the cake from so it is still a good one!

I made my own cake. Didn't eat any, but I made one icon_rolleyes.gif . I'm not much for cake but I figured I turned 30 this year so I deserved a cake!

Happy Birthday to you by the way! party.gif

Quite honestly, when it comes to birthday cake for myself, I usually end up making myself some other kind of dessert... Eclairs are the usual dessert of choice.. I guess I'm so tired of eating cake that I just want something else. I'm thinking that maybe this year I'll try for homemade donuts... I think it's because I consider something else like that to be more of a "treat" than cake is anymore.

Happy Birthday!

I have never made my own birthday cake - nor would I ever want to. My family buys me one from my all-time favorite bakery in town, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE. icon_smile.gif

I was making a birthday cake every month to take to our Red Hat gatherings. Depending on whose birthday it was, I decorated the cakes accordingly. The month of my birthday we went to a tea house for lunch. I thought they would have a cake planned for me and nothing was even said. Really hurt my feelings beings I am the Queen of our chapter. Now I don't take cake to the gatherings for anyone else. Guess that is very selfish of me.....If I had a cake at home, I would have to bake it and my daughter does cakes! I don't think they even think about me wanting one.

I don't have birthdays anymore... they're against my religion. icon_wink.gif

Seriously though, my son was born on my 20th birthday - and I have't had a birthday since (16 years later). It's now his birthday - and he can HAVE it! lol

But I always make the cake on that day. His 1st birthday cake was the first cake I ever decorated.

My middle son's birthday is the day before mine so my birthday does not exist anymore. He gets to pick, at least "we" got a cool pirate ship last year!!

I prefer to do my own cake. That way I know I will get what I want and I can practice different things and not feel pressured that it is for someone else. And I know this is really weird...but I don't really like cake (don't throw stones at me!)hehe

I like making them...just don't really like eating them. I'm not really a sweets eater unless it is cheesecake or ice cream. Much prefer something salty and crunchy!

(Please don't kick me outta the playground!) LOL!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

This is my first year to be decorating cakes for birthdays and I am not sure how I feel about making my own. Maybe it will depend on where I am at in the Wilton 3 course. If I have a cake due that week and nobody to give it to then I will probably make it my own and save my hubby and daughter the trouble of having one made. Don't know if they will go for that though! Hmmmmmmm.

Never do I make my own! lol In fact, I'm usually so caked out by the time my bday hits that I don't even want to look at cakes. There are a whole lot of fall birthdays in our families! lol icon_rolleyes.gif

Last year my husband purchase an Olive Garden Lemon cake for my birthday. It was very good and he ate most of it!

I don't think you should have to make your own cake. My DH always gets me a Bruster's ice cream cake. It is the only thing I usually want for my birthday.

What great responses! I don't understand why my e-mail didn't let me know. So I didn't make a cake for myself. My sisters took me shopping and out to lunch. We went to the Cheesecake Factory and split a piece of the Godiva Chocolate cheesecake for dessert. It's been 3 hours since lunch, and I'm still stuffed! I'm thinking of making a cake tomorrow, though, just because. I'm leaning towards a banana cake with chocolate frosting, done in a basketweave. Then, if I'm real ambitious, I'll make decorated flower cookies on sticks and put them in the cake. I've turned into a cookie maniac lately, so I'm looking for excuses to make them!
