Okay, so here begins my story of craziness...I had a present cake and a cookie bouquet due this week. They are both done. Thank GOD! Started the present cake Wed. I had made all the icing the day before so I'd be ready, the fondant bow was already made so I just need to bake and decorate. I made the icing with butter flavored crisco since it'll be under the mmf color isn't an issue. Right. So, I put a flower nail in my 9" square pans since my oven doesn't bake evenly...it helped tremendously!! Unfortunately, the cakes cooked TOO well and had air bubbles out the wazoo...which made my cake totally breakable cause it was so nice and fluffy. So I flip the cake, forgot about the nail, nail dug into the middle of the cake and took some cake with it. That sucked. So I flip it back over, level it out, transfer to nicely covered board...cake breaks in half, don't ask me how, but it did. So I level second layer, set aside, put frosting on bottom layer, attached second layer...second layer breaks into 3 pieces...so I said screw it....and put icing in between the breaks to "glue" it together, then iced it. Made the MMF, it actually rolled out perfectly and covered the cake well. Then I colored some MMF purple for the ribbon that goes around the cake, ribbon kept breaking, so I worked on that for an HOUR! Finally get the cake covered and realized I needed white frosting for the border....so to the mixer I go (again). I have to clean the mixter bowl since I only have one. I clean it out...(I had to use the sprayer)....my sprayer leaks a little, so after you turn the water off you have to hold the handle in for a few seconds. So, I put the now clean bowl on the counter, proceed to hold the handled in on the sprayer....and found out I didn't turn the faucet off. Soaked myself...so to the bedroom I went to change my shirt. Okay, so now make new batch of WHITE frosting, decorate and done! YAY!! Cookie bouquet. Making NFSC from this site, didn't turn out well. I was half way through it when I realized I had no baking powder, so I have to run to the store. Go back home, add in the rest of the powder and flour, turn the wrong switch on my kitchen aid and flour is now all over me. Change my shirt again. (I thought I was locking it, not turning it on..) (It's 10pm at this time)....Dough doesn't turn out right, dry and crumbly..so I said oh well. and managed to roll out the dough thick and even enough to cut one cookie at a time. I made 13 cookies (just in case something went wrong.) Get cookies baked, put on cooling rack, insert sticks, then burn myself grabbing a hot cookie sheet. Get ready to ice cookies, I was out of white royal icing...I was NOT going to make more..so I made a cookie glaze that is the best invention ever!! I'll have to share it...anyway. I end up with 8 bowls on my counter all different colors, frosting and color all over my clean shirt...don't know how. Decorate cookies, let sit, bags too small to fit over cookies. So I have to go to the store again to get new baggies. I had to improvise since Walmart was the only place open. So get home, baggies work. Yay!! Now I have to set up the flower pot, got some foam and some hot glue...all that went well, went to glue the grass stuff on...managed to get hot glue wrapped around my finger...straight out of the gun. How does that HAPPEN!!?? So, at 2:30am this morning, I put everything down and went to bed. Got up at 6:30am, stuck the cookies in the foam, added a little extra grass stuff, tied the bow around it, delivered it and wondered if all this was worth the trouble of bad days/nights.

Well my customers were so pleased they each gave me $10 more than the price I charged them...and they raved and raved about how awesome their orders turned out...so *SIGH*....Yeah, I still love it. icon_smile.gif Don't know if I'll ever make another cookie bouquet though.

You poor thing! Yeah, the glue gun.....not really something at which I am really...shall we say "adept"! I also burn myself on literally EVERY cake I bake. I consider them "battle scars"!

Well, I'm glad that everything turned out well. I hope you can squeeze in a nap today! LOLL

JOB WELL DONE!

WOW!! you had a me moment... it's usually a crazy day for me when i try making cookies & cakes at the same time. At the end i just ask myself if i'm happy how it all turned out. If it turned out well, i'm happy regardless of how much i've suffered. It sounds like it all turned out well for you!! The costumer was happy so that's a big thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif .
I too got burned bad when i tried using the glue gun the last time. My mom & kids would laugh at me, til they saw how bad the burn was. icon_eek.gif

Yup, I took pics of the bouquet this morning, but didn't have time to post it. I had to get out of the house, drop the girls off at school (which are on different sides of town from each other by the way), my sister is in high school and my daughter is in first grade....then I had to go to work. I managed to get here at 8:03..lol..thank goodness there weren't any cops around. icon_smile.gif I'm going to post the pics on my lunch break today (hopefully)...

Oh my goodness! See that is what my dh has to see when he watches me make cakes and he thinks that I shouldn't do it anymore because I get angry. But hey it comes with the job! I still love doing it!

I was going to say though that when you take a cake out of the oven, a GREAT tip for getting the airbubbles out and to make it more dense, take a clean kitchen towel, lay it over the cake while still in the pan then lightly press down. It will help level the cake too but you will press out those bubbles and it really does make the cake dense and easier to work with!

Well, I'm glad that everything turned out well.
I always finish my cakes at aroun 2:00 am , and I usually do not have to run to the store, fortunately.Otherwise it will be thw whole night.
Still 2:00am I do not know why (Maybe my 10 months and 2 years old kids?).
Well, I love doing it though.

LOL! I have had cake experiences like this and it makes you just want to go to bed and start all over the next day...but when someone is paying you to make a cake sometimes you can't. You had a great attitude about it and kept on going. That's one thing that makes a great decorator!

I'm so sorry hon. I was up late too with a too moist cake that fell apart in 10 different places, and I also tried glueing it back with icing, sigh. I'm so happy your customers enjoyed them. The extra tip they gave was well deserved thumbs_up.gif
