This was WAY TOO much fun. I told my DH, just what I need, something else to do.

I made these for a Fall Festival my church is having as an alternative to October 31.

We have a pumpking carving contest and this is the first year I have had time to enter.

I know from now on I will enter every year. This was very easy and alot of fun.

The big one I used a pattern from the internet and a knife.

The small one I used a drill, a small piece of metal tubing, and a knife.

Try one...... I think I am hooked. I saw a watermelon on the site I got the pattern from.. It had a bride and groom carved on the side.... Too cute.

Very pretty carvings! I saw on a morning show that you should carve from the center of your design to the outside to prevent it all from breaking down. That makes sense, but if I were doing the carving it would probably break anyway!

They really look great! Janice

I still have a hard time getting those little triangles out of the darn thing, for the eyes, without cutting my hand off.

Ohhh a good tip from Martha. If you're going to carve your pumpkin days ahead rub vaseline on the inside of your pumpkin and the exposed areas of your carving. Arrgghh that didn't sound good but I couldn't think of a better way to explain it. Someone help me out! *laff* It will help seal in the moisture and keep gross things from growing.

Hey bikegal--
I had heard that, too! About rubbing vaseline on the exposed areas of the pumpkin. Loved the way you described it--my husband was reading over my shoulder--now it has become his favorite saying. I know he will go to the office tomorrow and tell everybody about the website and that we talk about "rubbing vaseline on our pumpkins." That is to funny--ROFL!!!

A little goes a long way! *hoot* Okay okay I'll stop. I always cringe when people use fleshy or meaty to describe fruit/veggies. Yes, one day I'll grow up, now I'm going to get kicked off the board. icon_smile.gif

Just wanted to post the results of the carving contest.

haha, trying to attach a post again.
Well congratualtions, those were fine pumpkins, I can certainly see why they won!
Bikegal, your pumpkins are also wonderfully done. Boy you folks are so talented.
Esther, I love this pumpkin, I think he could star in a movie with Chevy Chase, "National Lampoon Hallowe'en Vacation". He is too funny, I would put him out anyway! Bet he is smelling pretty good now!

wOw great pumpkins!! I've been SO tempted to crave a pumpkin this year just for the heck of it. Somehow I imagine I wouldn't find it so easy. I'm sure I would make a huge mess, nearly cut off a finger in the process & the pumpkin still wouldn't look very cute..just how my luck goes..lol

you ladies did a great job tho & congrats on your winnings in the contest gma!!

Congrats they look great. I was all set to carve a pumkin. Was in the store on sat. had a ton left I did not want to carry it home (dont drive was walking) so figured with that many when DH and me do our regular shopping today we would get one and I could carve it this afternoon. Well guess what no pumkins. 3 stores and not a one could be found. I find it hard to belive that all the stores are sold out already.
