What is the difference in cake texture and taste, etc. between using dreamwhip or pudding mix in your cake batter? I was just wondering what I should try for my cakes that I'm making.
Also has anyone tried adding dreamwhip to buttercream icing?
If so what was it like?
I am trying to get a very light, soft cake.

Thanks

I'm interested in knowing about this too. When i first started coming here i saw in a few recipes to add Dream Whip. I went out and bought it, but i can't find those recipes now.

I have added the dream whip package (just powder) to my buttercream (Buttercream Dream Recipe on this site) and it turns out nicely.

Never added it to my cake mix but I've read other posts on CC that say their cakes are fluffy.

Okay I tried the same recipe with dreamwhip in one and pudding in the other. I liked the pudding mix better. Although I forgot to add dreamwhip until I had to mix only 2 more minutes so I'm sure it's better if added sooner. The pudding was moist and fluffier than the dreamwhip. Hope this helps someone.

I use both.

My personal preference leans to the dream cakes.

I find that in the larger and deeper cake pans the pudding added cakes can sometimes be a little gummy, and sometimes fall somewhat in the center upon settling.

This is JMHO, as I get kudos for the pudding cakes, too!

Here are recipes for each, and for both:
