Does anyone have a "easy" tutorial on choc roses. I'm guessing these would be the same as fondant ones? Should i know anything before i start.

Are you talking about chocolate candy clay roses? If so I have made these on numerous occasions. I have white and dark on a few of my cakes. You would make them just like you do a fondant rose. The only thing is, the more the chocolate is handled the warmer it gets and starts to get a little messy. Look in my pictures and you will see a few cakes and a bouquet of chocolate roses all made by hand!

I have made roses out of tootsie rolls, they worked out great. I really didn't know what I was doing, but they turned out cute, for my first attempt. The picture is in my photos.

How do you make chocolate candy clay. Do you just add corn syrup to melted chocolate? I've heard of this, and I want to try it, but I don't have a recipe.

The recipe is on the Wilton Website and on the back of their candy melts packages. One thing they don't mention though is to NOT microwave it for long periods of time. I microwave mine seconds at a time and stir stir stir!!! That is very important to remember or else it will become a gooey, separated oily mass!

I too have used Tootsie Rolls as well as Starburst candy!

I just softened them up in my hands or I guess you could do it in a microwave for a couple seconds. Combine as many individual candies as you want to make your rose. Just make the cone and then individual petals and wrap them around the cone. It's really fun! Using the back of a spoon to smooth and thin the petals helps but I tend to do things the hard way and do it all with my hands.

I've made roses with the flavored tootsie rolls, taffy, ju ju's, caramels and with gum drops! Anything soft - but not too soft can be made into the roses. You can use fruit roll-ups to make ribbon roses too. My son and I like to play with our food!

Hee hee... this thread is getting interesting. The starburst roses sound really yummy. I did my tootsie roll roses all by hand too, I should try that spoon trick next time.

Bubble gum roses! What a fantastic idea. Thank you so much bj for sharing that site. I bought one of those pasta rolling machines and it has been under my cabinet forever, of course never been used. I am finally going to take it out of the "grave yard" section where I keep all of those small appliances I purchase and never use.

What a great idea. I just feel weird when making roses out of something "tasty" that they are going to be eaten and my hands have been all over them. I wash my hands like crazy but it's still kind of weird. My hands just sweat too much in gloves and they are just difficult to wear period. All that said, I will have to give it a try.
