Flexique™ Instant Lace Cake Contest Entry Fallon Rae Bearb

Fallon Rae Bearb of Fallon Rae Cakes in Lafayette, LA created a pink, floral wedding cake themed on "Stained Glass" for our Flexique Instant Lace Contest

When I found out that I was going to be able to make a cake using Flexique, I was super excited. I’ve seen so many beautiful cakes showcasing all of the various ways to use this product, but I hadn’t yet tried it out myself and I was eager to get started. The new Flexique Instant Lace came premixed and ready to be used. This made using the product for the first time that much easier.

I knew I wanted to emphasize the fact that the Flexique stained glass is actually see-through, but I still wanted a simple background to be able to see the details of the stained glass. So, I decided to use LED lights to really showcase that element.

I knew I wanted depth and highlights added to the stained glass flowers, but I didn’t want to do block coloring. I decided to experiment with a few different techniques and ended up learning that I could just paint directly onto the back of the stained glass and it would show through on the other side. I did this with all of the stained glass flowers on the tiers. I used Flexique Instant Lace for the outlines of the leaves and painted the centers with edible gold paint.

Love the very interesting technique of painting on the back of Flexique Instant Lace to make it look like stained glass.  Great idea!
