A Closer Look at Mika Iniguez's Holiday Wedding Cake

Mika Iniguez (Millmika) of Fantastical Sweets by MIKA in Mexico made an incredible rosemaling wedding cake for Cake Central Magazine Volume 4, Issue 12. We loved it so much, we wanted to take a closer look at all the colorful details on this cake.

Here is what Mika had to say about the process of creating this amazing work of art:

“I really wanted to try to capture the wintery feeling of the holidays and the romantic essence of the art of rosemaling. The traditional rosemaling painting technique was a challenge but with a LOT of practice runs it started to come around. For this particular theme I wanted a piped open ended cage as a metaphor for the bond of marriage and commitment but with the openness to illustrate the individuality of each person in the couple. I wanted the cage to be delicate but with a little fray at the edges to give the effect of frost and the overall feeling to be 3 dimensional starting with the direct painting of the stems and flowers onto the fondant, following with the brushed embroidery for the birds and finishing with the mistletoe and piped cages.”

Thank you so much! Yes, the cage is made with piped royal icing....there is a Craftsy class given by Colette Peters 'Vintage Cakes, Modern Methods' that explains step by step how it's done. Happy Baking!
