Just released: the much-anticipated OSSAS issue of Cake Central Magazine (Volume 4, Issue 11)!

On September 27, the Cake Central team packed our bags and flew to Tulsa to attend one of the country’s most anticipated cake decorating competitions, the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show (OSSAS). Hosted and directed by Kerry Vincent, one of the industry’s biggest names, OSSAS attracts cakemakers from all over the world.

We sat down with the artists to get the inside story on what it’s like to compete at one of the biggest cake making events of the year, from initial inspiration to fondant frustations. We are pleased to showcase the incredible talent seen at the competition in Volume 4, Issue 10 of the magazine, and hope you are as impressed as we are by the daring designs that truly test the limits of sugar art.

Meet Jennifer Matsubara, cover cakemaker for Volume 4, Issue 11 and winner of the 2013 OSSAS Grand National Wedding Cake Competition!

Jennifer considers herself a self-taught cakemaker, having learned the majority of her techniques from books, magazines and tutorials. She has enjoyed realizing her dream of becoming an entrepreneur since the day she opened Shelby Lynn’s Cake Shoppe in Springdale, AR in 2001. Surprisingly, Jennifer had very little cake making experience when her decorating career began, but thanks to her dedicated spirit and a supportive network of friends and family, she quickly gained notoriety in the cake decorating community. She’s been a regular competitor at OSSAS since 2003, and in 2006, she entered the Grand National Wedding Cake Division for the first time.
