From Sketch to Cake: Pink and Pearls

Curious about the work that goes into the cakes featured in Cake Central magazine?

Sarah Fallon, one of the talented cake-makers who contributed to our pink wedding cake photo spread in Issue 2 of Volume 4, shared how she created her gorgeous cake using our inspiration photos.

Cake By Sarah Fallon
When I first received the inspiration picture I was immediately drawn to the pearl clips in the brides hair. I started out with the bottom tier knowing I wanted to do a big side panel of beading, pearls and glitter and then have little bursts of pearls coming off it to mimic the hair pins. I used a pearl mold for the pearls on the top tier then hand cut a heart and put more pearls and glitter on it to really carry the theme from the bottom up to the top of the cake. I really wanted to bring out the glitter and have some glitz and glamour in the cake so for the middle tier I used silver sanding sugar on the entire tier. It was much easier than I thought it would be to do; I just filled a plate with the sugar and rolled the cake in it. I thought about doing a flower on top but originally decided against it. Once I put the cake together, I thought it needed a little more and decided to do the flower to give it a little extra height, really complete the cake and also balance it out. I’m so happy I did the flower as I think it really gives it that something extra that finishes off the cake, especially with the petal edges painted in silver to carry the colors throughout.” — Sarah Fallon WhiskMeAwayCakes
