Tractor Cake
Though I'm fairly happy with how this one turned out, I ran out of time for a few thing...I had a major mishap with fondant, which was to cover the tractor and trailer, and ended up having to use buttercream. The plan was to make a 'trail' for the tractor of graham cracker crumbs, and have 'grass' all around the top of the base cake. All in all, my customer was happy with it, as was the little boy whose birthday it was for. I made it to match the party invitation.

My First Topsy Turvy
I did my first topsy turvy cake for an anniversary party, and it was also my first paying cake! :) My customer did not want fondant, so that was a little tricky, but all in all I was thrilled how it turned out! Marble cake with fudge filling, vanilla buttercream frosting & decoration, artificial flowers.

Cowboy Hat
This cake was made for my father-in-law; Brim was made using a 1:1 mixture of fondant & gumpaste, rolled out and cut using a template from a real hat, which I then turned upside down and placed cut brim over (plastic wrap covering real hat to protect it) and let it dry for a couple days. The platic wrap created some very cool (unintentional) ridges within the brim that made it look weather, just like real leather. The hat portion was a 3 layer yellow cake, filled with chocolate buttercream frosting. I let it set up than carved out the desired shape. When frosting the cake, I again used the chocolate buttercream, and did many thin layers of frosting, using a small spatula, and by hand to create the desired effect (very clean hands ;). I used some remained fondant/gumpast (tinted a bit darker) to make the braid, then attached it with a bead of buttercream. Many people commented that they almost picked it up and put it on, not realizing it was a cake!

Pirate Ship Cake
I had so much fun doing this cake! Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate! Chocolate cake, chocolate buttercream, covered in chocolate ganache. First time working with ganache, learned a lot. ;) I ended up using a hairdryer (suggested by my hubby) to heat it up and smooth some spots out. The birthday boy loved it!

My First Baby Shower Cake
This was a couple firsts for me; first baby shower cake, and my first time using & making fondant (marshmallow). It will definitely take a bit of practice, but was happy about how it turned out, and mom-to-be was ecstatic! (Designed to coordinate with their bedding.) The bottom layer was devils food with vanilla buttercream, top layer was spice with cream cheese buttercream, all covered in marshmallow fondant. Orange edge detail vanilla buttercream.
