First Wedding Cake (After Test Run Of Course)
This is the first cake I have made for someone's big day. So happy it was for my nephew and his bride. The cake is a 6", 8", and 12". Very basic flavors per the bride's request - white almond, chocolate, and butter. All covered in vanilla buttercream and middle tier covered in fondant. I panicked when the fabric ribbon started to absorb the oil from the buttercream, but I did not cry. I said a prayer that it would be fine come morning and in time for the wedding. By the next morning the ribbon was darker than the color we were aiming for, but it was consistently stained and no one knew the difference. Happy with the result and so happy I was able to make this cake. TFL

70's Wallpaper
My initial idea was to go with the usual disco theme for a 70's birthday party. My fondant characters didn't come out looking quite like I would have liked so I decided to change the plans. The top tier is German chocolate with coconut, caramel, pecan filing. The bottom tier is devil's food with fudge filling. The cake is covered with chocolate/ chocolate flavored fondant. That's all the birthday girl requested; chocolate. Easy enough. First time using the extruder. Love it and I am so glad I now know what everyone was talking about. Thanks to ggcakes22 and galidink for your help and ideas. TFL

Daisy Bee Cake
The cake is yellow butter cake with crusting chocolate fudge buttercream icing (recipe by gourmetcakes). The flowers, bees, border, bow, and letters are all gumpaste/fondant. First I have to say that the icing recipe is tops. It is smooth and the taste is amazing. If you need a chocolate bc recipe this one is it. I used one of the Wilton molds for the border and bow. This was my first chance to use the Wilton baker's blade to smooth my cake and I could not be happier with the result. I love daisies, but was tired of making them after this cake. The bees were my first attempt at fondant characters. Didn't take a close up of them for a reason, but they are my favorite detail on the cake. TFL

Rose Cake
Today was not a good day to bake. Everything went wrong. This cake was a layer that came out too thin so I decided to cut it into four equal pieces and stack them. I have trouble achieving that smooth buttercream finish, but I really have a hard time with square cakes. From now on if you want a square cake made by me, it better be a rose cake. This hides all of the flaws and is too easy.

This Woman's Work Rose Cake
I made this cake for a good friend and her family. Her mother is at the end of her battle with breast cancer. I wanted to make her a hummingbird cake, but it didn't come out too good. I decided to stick to what I know and made her one of my famous strawberry cakes. Come to find out that strawberries are her favorite. The icing is buttercream, but I used heavy cream instead of just whole milk. The difference is amazing. Best batch of buttercream ever!! Very easy cake to make and I think it came out pretty good for my first time using the rose technique.
