Fortune Cookie Cake
I wish I had a better photo of this. I made a white cake and covered it with tan colored chocopan, brushing it with various luster dust colors to make the mottled effect. The fortune itself is gum paste rolled out and set to dry over two rolling pins for the shape and I had my local bakery print the text and attached it with frosting. The hardest part was getting the chocapan "fondant" to stick on the underside of the cake.

Eyeball Soup
I did this one in 2009 when a friend said she wanted an eyeball soup cake at our Halloween party. I made a red velvet cake which made it fun when cutting into it. This was my first shaped cake and I really enjoyed making the skeleton fingers out of gum paste. I dusted them with cocoa powder to make them look old. The eyeballs are marzipan and piping gel.

Penguin Winter Wonderland
I was in charge of our Christmas Party this year and I work with atmospheric/weather scientists. I thought they would appreciate penguins on an "iceberg." It was a big hit. I have Celiac disease, so I don't keep regular flour in my house -- they ate my gluten free cake and raved about it for two days. This is the third shaped cake I've made so far.
