My Purple Birthday Cake
Several friends asked my husband if he was going to get me a birthday cake. He responded, "No way! She'd kill me!" Smart man! This cake allowed me to test a few difference recipes (thus the cake colors are different). I also tried a few new techniques. The bottom tier is painted. For the middle tier I used an extruder to get the skinny rope and then cut it into 2" sections. It was fun experimenting and playing with this cake. The cake is some variation of chocolate cake with irish cream mixed in. I tried a few different recipes for that. The fillings are plain buttercream, buttercream with oreo, and buttercream with Irish cream. Some Irish cream may or may not have been consumed in the making of this cake. ;) TFL

Pink & Purple Polka Dots
This cake was made for a friend who had a horrible week and ran out of time to make her daughter's cake. Everyone loves to spoil their first baby on their first baby, so I wanted to be sure she had a cake she was happy with. The mom loved it, and I do too. The cupcake isn't the best though- for some reason I really struggled to add the "wrapper" and I need a lot more icing practice. This cake allowed me to use my new extruder- my new favorite tool! 10" chocolate with Oreo cookie filling. 6" layer is red velvet, cupcake is funfetti.

Sesame Street Elmo Themed Cake
The mother of this cake requested an Elmo cake for her 2 year old. When all was said and done Elmo almost didn't make it on at all! I made a cute gumpaste figure of him to set on the cake but due to a small accident Elmo lost both his legs, and arm and his head. Haha! I'm fairly new to making cakes and haven't taken any classes. Constructive criticism is very welcome. Thanks! :)

First Attempt At Teapot Cake
Here is my first teapot. I really struggled with the spout and would appreciate helpful feedback on how to make a spout that actually looks nice. I made this cake away from my home so I didn't have the supports needed to keep the teapot on top of the bottom layer. Other than that I do like the design and the handle. My MIL wanted plain white cake with white frosting, so I made the bottom layer for her, and the teapot out of chocolate and MMF for the rest of us. She's never had a "fancy" cake before so it was very fun seeing her expression when it was finished. Thanks to others on CC for ideas!

Birthday Cake
Three tiered cake for my supervisor's 30th birthday. Bottom tier is white cake with plane icing for filling, middle is chocolate cake with oreo cookie icing/filling, top tier is peanut butter cake with peanut butter icingfilling. Brown fondant is chocolate (and delicious!), rest of it is regular MMF. I just started making cakes two months ago and this is my first three tiered cake. Although there are imperfections I am very happy with it! Thanks for looking!

Thomas The Train Birthday Cake
This cake was inspired by several different cakes on Cake Central. The 5-year-old birthday boy actually gets the credit for adding the colorful gumdrops! The top layer of the bottom tier is a half topsy-turvy. Top tier is a 6" cake cut in half. I only leveled the bottom layer and took advantage of the natural cake dome for the top level. It's not perfect- but it was done quickly and free so I didn't worry about it too much.

Birthday Present
I made this for my daughter's first birthday party. It was my second time making a fondant bow, third time using fondant on a cake at all. I realized later that the reason my sides bowed outward is because I used too much frosting on the edges (as opposed to a simple crumb coat). Lesson learned.
