Burgundy Birthday Cake With Sugar Flowers
This was for my mom's 65th birthday party, which was to be somewhat of a big deal. I made the mistake of stacking it before transporting it to my mom's house which is an hour and a half long drive from my house. I also had a lot of air bubbles under the fondant. The result was a cake with a leaning tower effect, right down to the cracks in the facade. It looked so awful that I wanted to throw it in the garbage and get a cake from the local grocery store. To try to repair all the cracks I made some royal icing and swirled it with my finger all over the whole cake, creating a kind of plaster effect. It helped a bit. Oh well, I learned a lot, and at least the flowers turned out okay.

Pumpkin Cake
Same baby shower, "Welcome Great Pumpkin!" I wanted to do a pumpkin cake. This was three 9x3 inch cakes stacked, carved, and covered in fondant and painted with petel and luster dust. Stem and vine are also fondant (should have used gum paste), and the stem was brushed with petal dust. The leaves are gum paste, also painted with petal and luster dust.

Welcome Great Pumpkin!
Small twist on pumpkin baby shower theme - instead of "welcome little pumpking" this was "Welcome Great Pumpkin!" Hence the presence of a couple of Peanuts characters. Cake was chocolate filled with chocolate pudding covered with ganache. Pumpkins are modeling chocolate, characters are fondant (should have used gum paste), moon is fondant, and grass and leaves are buttercream. Comment and suggestions welcome.
