Dia De Los Muertos
I have wanted to make a Dia de los Muertos calavera for a long time and when I saw the gorgeous one that 'preciouspjs' posted a few days ago I just had to try! I had a leftover 7" round carrot cake & some buttercream with lemon zest. Not the easiest thing to pipe with because the tip kept getting clogged with the zest so I had to use a #2 tip, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Especially since it took me less than 3 hours. That might not sound that fast to some but I'm usually pretty slow so for me it's huge!

Casino Cake
I donated this cake for a fund raiser at my daughter's school. Most of it was eaten at the party but 2 of the leftover cakes were auctioned off. Lemon cake with lemon curd filling and buttercream with lemon zest & carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. All covered with MMF. The signs were foamcore covered with fondant mixed with tylose.

Free Cakes For Kids
This my first cake to make for "Free Cakes for Kids", an organization that provides cakes to children that might not otherwise receive a birthday cake because they are in a shelter or foster care. This is the first one I've made for them and I'm delivering it tonight. The woman told me this cake was a little different from their normal requests. It's going to a shelter and needs to feed 50. I think they are celebrating for who ever has a birthday during this month? Not sure but I'm so happy to be a party of such a wonderful organization!

Cake With Pearls
This cake was for a 25th college reunion. The other picture shows the items the client wanted on top of the cake - a bird and blue bonnet sugar flower. I like it but I think it looks really pretty without them - simple and clean. I made made my first sugar flower - a bluebonnet. I dropped it on the floor and it shattered! So this is the 2nd one. The top tier is lemon with lemon curd, bottom is chocolate with toasted walnut filling. The cake is covered in vanilla buttercream and vanilla MMF. I charged her $200 (it's for 30 people) does this sound reasonable? As a side note, I use organic butter, cream & eggs.
