Purple Flowers For Mom's Birthday
Sides are covered in chocolate hazelnut rolled wafer cookies cut to size. Flowers are royal icing covered in copious amounts of pearl dust (it was my first time and I like shiny things.) I spent all week making flowers for this cake with many of them turning out poorly so the night before, I had to make yet another batch of flowers and was running out of time. I made some that I just sort of made up, but i think they look somewhat like zinnias. They managed to dry completely over night with the help of a fan and a cooling rack, so problem solved. The cake is devil's food, frosting is made with nutella, and then vanilla buttercream in a thin layer on top so I could color it. It was a huge hit and now my mom thinks I'm the best cake decorator that ever lived. She's so cute.

Autumn Leaf Cookies
I made some spice sugar cookies with the Marshmallow Rolled Buttercream for Decorated Cookies recipe here on CakeCentral. Then I hand veined all 4 dozen of them with a toothpick. I forgot to adhere the rolled buttercream to the cookie with anything like piping gel but I don't think the taste suffered and I had gone around all the edges lightly pressing them down anyway. They were delicious.

Halloween Candy Barrel Cake
I made this for a church's Halloween cakewalk. I didn't want to show up empty handed since I'm not a member there, though I had been invited. My cake ended up kind of sloppy, but it was obvious that no one else put any effort into their cakewalk goodies, so I wasn't too embarrassed. Still, it was a fun cake to make, very fast and easy, and I will probably make another some time.

Wilton Course 2 Final Cake
I'm not completely in love with this cake, but I didn't plan my palette as thoroughly as I would have liked. Also, my basketweave looked like crap since my frosting was too thin and kept heating up as I went which just made it REALLY hard to work with. I got a picture of the good side, though. Heh.

Fabulous Unicorn
I made this cake for an in-store demo that my Wilton instructor was holding. I was showing off Course 1 techniques and got to do whatever I wanted as long as it only used that skill set. I drew the unicorn myself but used a few different clip art images for reference. I wish I had outlined the unicorn in maybe a darker colors or used a thicker line because some of the details got lost in the sea of white, but I'm still incredibly pleased with it since unicorns are awesome.

Daisy Cake
This was the final cake I made for my Fondant and Gumpaste class. The colors in the photo are a bit off, but I had a very hard time finding the right light to get the truest colors. I took my color inspiration from some fabric swatches from the 70s. The design was based on a cake by user reneeferguson. The brown fondant was home made chocolate marshmallow fondant (made with Hershey's special dark cocoa powder and semi-sweet chocolate chips) mixed with some Wilton dark brown to make it a workable consistency. It's going to be a long time before I make another fondant covered cake.

Goomba Cake
This was another cake I did just for practice. I was unsatisfied with how my stars came out on the last cake, so I decided to try again with a less detailed picture. I am pretty pleased with it, all things considered. I just wish I had done a nicer shell border, but I tried using the proper technique this time and it's more difficult. Plus my frosting for that part was way soft, so that didn't help. Still, I'm getting better.

Moogle Cake
This was just a cake I made for practicing writing, frosting the sides a different color, combing the sides, attempting my first shell border, and using the star tip (don't ask how it turned into what it did.) It didn't turn out the way I wanted because the image I chose was too detailed for the size, but I finished it anyway so here it is. It's a moogle from the Final Fantasy series.

Super Mario Galaxy
Birthday cake for two brothers, 9 and 10. It's my version of the Mario Galaxy cake by DC0630. Base was made with Wilton star pan with black and blue buttercream, striped in bag then smeared while I made my best attempt at smoothing. Ball part was made with Wilton sports ball pan, covered using grass tip. Coins and stars are marshmallow fondant, buttercream flowers were made with star tip then applied after drying. Figures on top and sides (Mario and the electrogoombas) were ordered online. It was my first cake so there are tons of mistakes, but I am still pleased with how it came out and the kids loved it.
