Christmas Igloo And Penguins
My take on the popular igloo cake. After planning to only bring a cheesecake to my family's Christmas dinner I learned that my nephews were hoping I would bring something fun for them - this was the fastest theme I could think of! Penguins, snowballs, and igloo tunnel are fondant, the rest is BC. The wreath is a store-bought candy decoration. Thanks for looking!

Baby Blocks
Three 6-inch cakes (each with 3 layers inside) - mixture of chocolate, vanilla, and mocha flavors. This was done for a friend's shower - all buttercream as she does not care for fondant. I wish I could have used fondant to make the letters a bit more crisp, but she loved it and that's what counts! Letters on top were the secret initials for the baby - name and gender were to be announced that day. Little gumpaste bumblebees on the cake board to match the theme of the shower. TFL!

Baby Dedication Favors
I was asked to make a cake for the party following a baby's Dedication, but the forecast for the 100+ degree heat wave all week forced me to cancel that plan. I offered to make cookie favors instead, since I am trying to get more practice with them and I thought they would withstand sitting outside in that heat better than a cake (it was an outdoor party). Not to mention cookies versus cake meant less time spent with my oven on! I used the NFSC recipe with Antonia74's RI and loved them both. Thanks for looking!

Surprise Flag Cake
Inspired by the awesome cake by themaytrix, I tried to throw together a quick mini version for an impromptu gathering. I made my red layers with a 6 inch pan and the blue with a smaller mini springform pan. BC with simple sprinkles on top - I put so much time into cutting the layers I did not have time to really decorate the outside! Happy 4th of July and TFL!

1St Birthday Butterfly Cake
1st Birthday cake made to match the invites (which of course I don't have a photo of). I had a family emergency and had to drop this cake off quickly and then return later on - by the time I returned the cake was already cut up, so I am thankful I have some photo evidence thanks to a friend. 10" is WASC with vanilla BC, 8" is chocolate cake with strawberry BC and a fresh strawberry filling. Butterfly topper and accent flowers/butterflies are gumpaste. *Edited to add: One of the party guests shared a photo of the cake cropped with a pic of the decoration/theme, so I am adding that one too.

Baby Converse And Monkey
After a 7-month hiatus from CC and baking, I was able to do this cake for a dear friend with a new baby. Thanks to stellastarchild for the Converse template - I have wanted to try it for so long! I did not have gumpaste so I used fondant mixed with tylose. Traditional WASC cake with vanilla buttercream. The monkey was added at the last minute, to match a mural on the baby's room wall.

Lots Of Roses!
Small cake for a "Ladies Night Out" dinner party the night before a friend's wedding day. She loves roses but the wedding flowers were red roses, so I did not want to do a red/white color scheme that would resemble the wedding cake the next day. WASC French Vanilla cake with chocolate fudge filling, IndyDebi's BC tinted ivory (used brown vanilla extract rather than clear). Three 6 inch rounds for a taller look. Mix of BC and gumpaste roses, fondant leaves. Next time I try the quilted look I will get the impression mat to help it look better. TFL!

Baby Shower Favor Cookies
NFSC with Antonia74's RI. I did these as a gift for my friend's surprise shower. It was so fun to make these, although not so fun to work on them in a non-air conditioned kitchen on a 100 degree weekend, along with lost power due to tornado warnings. (not a common thing for those of us in the NYC area!) I especially loved being able to do the initial "E", since the baby was already born and so had already been named! (adoption) TFL!

Flip Flop Cupcakes
Last minute request by a friend to help out with her daughter's 3rd birthday party. Flip Flop themed party, and her oven broke during her attempt to make a flip flop shaped cake. Can't disappoint the little girls! Vanilla cupcakes (rainbow inside) with BC frosting. "Sand" is crushed Nilla Wafers and a touch of dark brown sugar. Fondant flip flops with candy sprinkle accents. Sorry for the poor photos - these were done so fast I forgot to take photos with the good camera, these were snapped with a camera phone by the mom. TFL!

D&b Wedding Cake
12-8-5 inch cake for an afternoon brunch wedding. French Vanilla WASC with a chocolate-raspberry mousse filling. BC with fondant draping, gumpaste roses. Satin yellow ribbon, topper provided by bride. I am still working to improve my edges on these big square cakes, could have cleaner of course but the bride/groom loved it! This design was inspired by another (found online by the bride) but is unknown - if anyone knows please let me know. TFL!

Tiffany Ring Box Cake For Tiffany!
My first attempt at a stacked set of square cakes, and first time doing the classic Tiffany ring box style. This was for a bridal shower for a woman named Tiffany so it was the perfect opportunity to try it. The party planner requested all BC and as little fondant as possible, so I tried my best to get good edges with my BC. (I was having some issues with it crusting too soon, so I think the consistency may have been too thick). French Vanilla WASC cake with a dark chocolate fudgy filling. The ribbons, roses and ring inset area are all fondant. I was going to make an edible ring, but I was asked to use a plastic one from the party store instead (it can be removed and washed and attached to a necklace, since the bachelorette party/hen night was later on that evening after the shower). TFL!

My First Barbie Cake
I never thought I would get the chance to make one of these, since most of the kids in my life are boys! This is a surprise cake for my friends niece who has just relocated to the area and is turning 26 today. It turns out she is a huge Barbie fan, and recently showed my friend a photo of a cake like this and said I wish I could have had a birthday cake like this when I was younger. So now she is getting one! They wanted a blue dress that was not like Cinderella's, with pink and white too. All buttercream over a vanilla cake with raspberry BC filling. I am glad I read the forums and got advice on the construction of this one I dont have the Wilton Wonder Mold pan so this is made of two 6 rounds and the top was baked into a pyrex bowl to get the necessary height (whole Barbie inside). TFL!

Rubber Ducky Cheesecake
I love all of the rubber ducky in a tub cakes here on CC, and knew it would be perfect for my best friend since she's obsessed with rubber duckies. However, she lives far away, doesn't eat cake, and didn't have a baby shower! So on a recent trip to visit her and the new baby, I packed some supplies (cake pan, some fondant, etc.) and made her made her a ducky cheesecake. Chocolate swirl cheesecake, cookie sticks attached with melted chocolate, some blue sugar for the "water", fondant towel and soap, bubbles are tiny pearl candies, and the rubber ducky is made of chocolate (bought at the store during Easter candy season). TFL!

Hello Kitty Mini Cake
I made this 6 inch cake for a friend I was going to see while on a business trip - she loves Hello Kitty, I had an extra chocolate cake, and I was always curious what it would be like to travel on an airplane with a cake. As you can see in the second photo, I placed the cake in a small box, which I carried in a small shopping bag so the box would not tip over. Although I did DROP that bag while taking off my jacket for security (oops!!), the result was perfect! TFL!

Quatchi - Winter Olympics Mascot
Cookie design inspired by sweetopia and the fabulous cookies of the Vancouver mascots. I only made Quatchi cookies, as you can see in the second photo he is clearly my favorite mascot! Sweetopia has a tutorial on her blog: http://www.sweetopia.net/2010/01/how-to-make-olympic-mascot-cookies/

Spaghetti And Meatballs
Inspired by the countless adorable cupcakes here on CC and elsewhere, I finally had to do my own! Meatballs are the dark Ferrero Rocher balls - I ended up receiving a large amount of them as a gift this past week, so this was my way to share them (and not eat them all myself). "Sauce" is seedless raspberry jam thinned with a bit of corn syrup. TFL
