Camping 101
My boss' wife asked me to make some camping/ golfing cupcakes for his 60th birthday. So be it! I made some character cupcakes, a couple of which looked a little like he and his wife. I made one of Cliff just waking up in the morning with bedhead hair, morning beard, and little red hearts on his jammies. The one of his wife was in her sleepng bag with a sleeping mask and little pink rollers in her hair. Along with them were some bits of wisdom, like never leave your marshmallow unattended, never hide the cadybars in you sleeping bag, and never never set your glasses on a rock. Such fun! TFL

Salvaged Disaster
I did this wedding cake for my cousin's daughter. I made the mistake of assembling the cake at home, trusting in the cake's dowling to hold it together. This cake was originally a four layer cake! We had to travel three hours to get to our destination and everything went well for the first 1 1/2 hours, then I noticed small cracks appearing...then big cracks...then chunks of cake started falling off the bottom layer. In order to save the top I grabbed it and moved it to the side. When we finally arrived I had 1 hour to totally remove all the draping and flowers from the original design and start over making new drapery to cover the cracks and thumbprints that were all over the cake! Luckily I had extra fondant and flowers along because there was a whole lot of patching to do. We were able to use the bottom layer by cutting the chunks up and serving it. ( I called it roadkill cake) Whew! I don't want to ever do that again. Lesson learned.

Tonka Truck
This was a cake for a two year old who loves trucks. I took one of the grandkid's tonka trucks out of the garage, set it on the counter, and started drawing! Then I transfered my drawing onto a sheet of gumpaste , let it dry, and then painted it with food coloring. The rocks were the fun part- they're just swirled, rock colored fondant. I heard the cake was a hit - Noah liked his truck!

Chocolate Guitar
I did this cake for my nephew's 30th b-day. The guitar is rice krispie treats with chocolate fondant flowers. I sign all my cakes with a ladybug and you can see him in the closeup picture. ( a chocolate ladybug of course) the edges of the cake were done with chocolate cream wafer rolls cut in half.

Pirate Topper
I made these figures for a Wilton demonstration in the Michaels store where I work. The inspiration came from their new 2009 Wilton yearbook. All figures are made out of rice krispie treats covered in fondant. Everything is edible except the jolly roger flag. ( Wilton makes that- available at Michaels stores) (TFL!)

Monkey Business
This was a birthday cake for a one year old's birthday. I made a smash cake for the birthday boy and this cake was for the "big folks". It took several days, but I had a ton of fun making the birds, snake, peeled banana, and of course, the monkeys! I used the many great jungle cakes here on CC for my inspiration. TFL!
