Basic Shower Cake
For lack of a better title! This was a replica of a cake I made for my sister in law's birthday. I forgot to take a picture so I whipped up another as it was really easy. Just changed the flowers though. The cake was banana cake with nutella filling (uber yummy!!!). Iced in buttercream with a fondant ribbon around the base. Flowers were my very first official gumpaste spray!!!! yay me!

Piping Technique
Just practicing my piping. I used a ThanhThanh father's day cake as my guide. Obviously not as beautiful as the original, but I tried my best. Got to work on my pressure consistency. But, the cake inside was AMAZING!!! SeriousCake's Peanut Butter cake recipe. SOOOO yummy! Check out the crumb texture on the cut photo. So fine! It just seemed to melt in the mouth. I'm getting closer to being a scratch exclusive baker I think. . .

Spring Cake
Most of the cakes I've been doing lately are inspired by several cakes that are in my favorites. This one was largely inspired by Mug-a-Bug's Ladybug cake. It was a strawberry variation of the WASC recipe (which turned out wonderfully) with a hazelnut fudge filling and chocolate buttercream. It was covered with Satin Ice's Dark Chocolate fondant and fondant decals. I also used Wilton's sugar pearls. My new favorite I think!

Cream Cheese Experiment!
Edna's Crusting Cream Cheese Buttercream. And boy was it creamy!!! Almost too creamy. I know next time I use it I'm going to mix it thicker. But it tastes good! After I finished frosting I decided to flex my piping muscles a bit and practice. And I don't know if it was because of a new recipe or because I haven't iced a cake like this in a long time, but I had a hard time getting it smooth and even! Still not happy with the sides. I kept finding bubbles! *sigh* oh well. The cake inside was a new recipe as well. Red Velvet. Someone posted the recipe in a thread recently and said it was by far the best Red Velvet they've ever had. I would have to agree!

Jen's Cake
My first time quilting fondant! And trying to cover a square cake! I'm going to get an impression mat. This was done with a little roller and a ruler. Not happy with how it turned out. First time making a bow and gift tag. Jen's really into pink (as you can tell by the other Jen cake in my album!) and she was amazed with it! I tried to make the bow look a bit more like floppy fabric rather than a stiff bow. The cake inside was chocolate.

Thomas The Train!!!!
Will's Third Birthday cake! He was having a Thomas Party and so Thomas he got! That's kid is going to get so spoiled! WASC recipe, I tried marbling it too. Turned out well. Cake was covered in fondant, my first time carving a cake and covering a cake board in fondant too! Everyone loved it, Will especially, and that's what matters!

Cornelli Lace
A cake for my mother in law. One time she helped me take a cake to a party and on one part of the cake was cornelli lace. She mentioned that if she could have any kind of cake she would want it to be covered in that lace. So here's her birthday cake! First time using gumpaste flowers I made myself on a cake too. I think you can see the straw I put the wires in!! :P Thanks for looking!

Housewarming Cake
This went with the Housewarming cuppies. More of a centerpiece cake really. Apple Spice with Buttercream. The flowers are fondant. Everybody loved it! Here's a little nugget: So I liked this design so much I didn't want to cut into the cake at all. So I didn't. . . . for 2 weeks! When I finally did (out of curiosity) I found the cake inside was just as moist as the day of the party! I had a bite then threw the rest away but not because it didn't taste good! It's just not good to have a whole cake sitting around my house. :)

So Cute!!
a full sheet, all buttercream with an edible image. Yeah, can't take credit for the photo! (aren't they sweet?!?!) In fact, that's most of the reason I took a picture of this cake because the couple just made it so much better. (and yes, I am working on getting my writing to come out straight!)

*sigh*
Just a picture of the UGLIEST WEDDING CAKE I've ever had to do. Here's the story: the bakery I worked for decided they needed new display cakes and let the decorator with the most experience design them (psst, more experience doesn't always mean they're better). Amazingly, a bride liked this one and ordered it. And I had to do it. Ugh. Oh, the flowers are gumpaste, the rest is buttercream, can't remember the flavor, probably white, blah blah blah.

Mom's Birthday Cake
A heart shaped cake with two cupcakes for my mom's birthday. Her fave color is purple. Also the first time I've tried piping roses directly on the cake (so that's why they look a little messier compared to the flowers on my basic floral cake!). All buttercream, chocolate cake with chocolate blackberry filling.
