Dragon Cake
My DGS wanted a BD cake with two dragons, a bigger one on top and a small one on the side.I tried Mike McCarey's design (I love his cake!) and added a baby dragon to it. Dragons are RCT covered with white chocolate modeling clay. Balls are also modeling clay. I used white chocolate ganache instead of buttercream under the fondant. Great learning experience, but the ganache was not as firm as my practice cake. I definitely need more prcatice with ganache recipes!

"pastry" Sneaker And Shoebox Birthday Cake
My DGD loves Pastry sneakers, so I made her a sneaker with a shoebox cake. The sneaker is carved styrofoam because she wanted to keep it. It is decorated with fondant and gumpaste. The shoebox is chocolate and pistachio layers with almond buttercream covered in fondant. I learned a lesson on this one....styrofoam is much more difficult to carve than cake!!!

Sponge Bob Squarepants
A Sponge Bob cake for my Granddaughter. Thanks to all the Sponge Bob ideas on CC. I tried fondant for the body, but the tall vertical shape made it crack on the top edges. Disaster. Had to whip up some BC instead. Did not have enough time to do socks! The party hat was hiding a dowel which I held during transport. The hat was then decorated at the party. I don't know how people do this for a living!

Lightning Mcqueen
My attempt at Lightning McQueen for my grandson's birthday. I decided to carve Lightning from a chocolate mud cake, but he was a little too heavy for my mesa layers. Even with straws supporting him, he rocked a little on the trip and ended up cracking the fondant a bit. I don't think anyone noticed though. Does anyone have any better ideas for a good carving cake thats not as heavy as a mud cake?
