Curious George Cake
My son's 5th birthday cake for his party today. I'm happy with how it turned out, even if Curious George isn't perfect! It's a 1/2 sheet (chocolate with raspberry filling and cinnamon with buttercream filling) with a wondermold on top (strawberry). George, bananas, and paintbucket are all fondant -- only my second time working with it! I really like that the cake tells a story :)

Thank Heaven For Little Boys
Buttercream frosting with fondant accents. Pearl dust added to blanket, shimmer dust to stars and moon. This was my second time working with fondant. I've always admired the sleeping baby cakes that I've seen on this site -- I'm glad I had the chance and the guts to do my own!

Father's Day Bbq!
This was my first attempt at doing anything with fondant! This is a yellow cake with fudge filling, frosted with chocolate buttercream. The charcoal "briquets" are actually silver shimmer dust, my dh's idea! The cheeseburgers and hot dogs are fondont. It wasn't so hard to work with; though, I don't think I'll be using it to cover a cake any time soon!

Disc Golf Basket
I was inspired by Treenuge for this one! It's a disc golf basket for my husband's 30th birthday. He and his buddies all play in a league, some of them professionally. The basket colors are to reflect an Innova basket. The top layer is 12 inches -- 1/2 chocolate and strawberry with pudding filing. The bottom layer is 14 inches -- cinnamon swirl and yellow cakes. The disc is a sugar cookie, decorated by my 2 and 4 year olds!! I LOVE how it turned out!!

Easter Lamb Cake
Making lamb cakes is a tradition in my family. This year, I was finally given my own stand up lamb mold. I made MY pound cake recipe and MY buttercream recipe. Unlike in generations past, my cake and surrounding decorations are entirely edible! No ribbons, no fake grass. I love that I can make this tradition my own now!

Backyardigans Birthday Cake
This cake took FOREVER! It is made of 4 separate cakes - one 1/4 sheet and 3 8-inch round cakes. Each a different flavor, with a different filling. The characters are all FBCT. Because most of the characters had small extended parts on them, I had to but a backing on each of them. Unfortunately, there was no way I could smooth out the frosting, so I put borders around them. It looks good, but not quite what I hoped for. Frosting the cakes together took a long time - ugh. But my 2 year old loves it!

Dr Seuss Birthday Cake
This is a 1/2 sheet cake that I made for Dr Seuss' birthday celebration. It is made of 2 different 1/4 sheet cakes. One is a white cake with cherry filling (don't know how that will taste, but it's what the client wanted). The other is a devil's food cake with chocolate fudge filling. The cat in the hat and the things are frozen buttercream transfers. I normally don't like to put sprinkles on a cake, but I think it really worked well on this one. The sides of the cake have red, blue, and yellow swirls

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Day
This is a 1/2 sheet cake. Half is a strawberry cake with vanilla creme filling, a recipe that I found on CC. The other half is a french vanilla cake with butterscotch buttercream frosting for the filling. Frosting is all buttercream. I used the leftover butterscotch frosting to make brown for the chalkboard edge. I got this idea after looking at several other chalkboard cakes here on CC. Thanks for the ideas! Hope the teachers love it.

Skull Skateboard Cake
Here's my first cake for a customer (one that isn't a friend or family member). The cake is a 1/4 sheet cut into a skateboard shape. I used a piece that was cut off to extend the board a little longer. It's propped up on a block of 2x4 covered with cake board wrapping paper. The wheels are mini-donuts. The kid LOVED it!

Care Bears Share Bear Birthday Cake
This is my third FBCT, and I'm getting better at it! I put a backing on this one the same color as the cake frosting, but couldn't get the edges smoothed out. So I ended up covering the edges of the transfer with cloud bubbles. I wish I had made the clouds differently, as well - but it's a learning experience! It's too heavy on the clouds, but I'm sure that the birthday girl will LOVE it anyway! So I've learned my lesson about FBCT - don't put a backing on it!

Bass Fisherman Birthday Cake
This is a 1/2 yellow, 1/2 chocolate cake with whipped frosting. The top half is airbrushed with golden yellow and peach colors to look like a sunset. I used a template to make the fish, as i can not do that type of thing freehand. The buyer was thrilled with the look of this cake -- said I was an artist! This idea came from a cake I saw here or on wilton's site.

Andrew's Awesome Skateboard Cake!
This is a birthday cake built on top of an actual skateboard deck! Special thanks to youtakethecake for this idea. The cake is 2.5 1/4 sheet cakes trimmed to fit the board. The logos are FBCT -- my first attempt!! I made the flames with the use of a template and color mist spray. I covered the trucks and wheels with foil, then piped frosting over the wheels. He had no idea that there was a real skateboard under there! A great success!
