Poodle 'n Polka Dots!
I made this for my boss to give to her granddaughter for her first birthday. Strawberry cake with strawberry buttercream filling, covered (and I DO mean COVERED) in buttercream. Polka dots are the jumbo confetti. June 2008. TFL! P.S. Please forgive the messy kitchen - things get insane when I'm decorating!

Treasure Chest Cake
This is the cake that started my fascination with cake making a year ago! Pirates themed birthday party. Yellow cake, carved to be somewhat in the shape of a treasure chest, then iced in chocolate icing. The accents were cut from yellow fruit roll-ups. The board it's sitting on was cut out from a Pirates of the Carribean playset the birthday boy had already been given, then I added candy necklaces, ring pops and gold mine bubble gum for the "booty". June 2007. TFL.

Bowling For Birthday!
This one was made for a little girl's bowling themed birthday party. The ball was made using the Wilton sport ball pan and was a yellow cake, iced in pink vanilla icing, then while still fresh, COVERED in pink sanding sugar to make it sparkle. The holes are Hershey's kisses. The pins were chocolate cake carved from a 9 inch square, covered in a light blue/aqua vanilla icing. March 2008. TFL.

Pretty In Pink
Birthday cake made for a co-worker. My first attempt at fondant, so I clearly have a lot to learn! Cake was a boxed strawberry cake, 2 9" layers with strawberry sundae syrup brushed on the bottom layer before filled with cream cheese icing. Topped with cream cheese icing before laying on the findant. Birthday girl likes the retro look, so I went with the polka dots. March 2008. TFL.

Camo Cupcakes
Can you see them? Heehee! These were for a co-worker who was having a country-themed birthday celebration. I used canned vanilla icing on these, I divided it into three bowls and dyed them brown and the 2 different shades of green. Used ready-made Wilton black icing. Cupcakes were yellow cake, and I leveled them off even with the top of the cupcake liners so they wouldn't be difficult to remove from the cupcake pan after they had been iced. March 2008. TFL!

Cupcake Bouquet For Mother's Day!
Wanted to make something super special for my mom for Mother's Day. I saw a cupcake bouquet tutorial before on here, but I knew I didn't want to use a terracotta pot. This one looked so pretty! They were mini yellow cupcakes, iced using 2 different shades of pink, though the lighter shade came out a peachy color. They were held onto the floral foam with toothpicks, and I used small white flowers and some leaves to fill in some of the spaces. May 2008. TFL!

Father's Day Cruiser
My dad is into classic cars, so I knew immediately I wanted to make him an old convertible. I made this based on some pics of old Thunderbirds from the '50s. All is carved from cake, except the cardboard and foil windshield and the wheels, which were Oreo cookies that were shoved into place and iced. Cake was half yellow, half chocolate, and all was iced in buttercream that I was determined to get smooth. June 2008. TFL!

Sea Turtle
Chocolate cake, covered in buttercream. The eyes were 2 chocolate chips, and his smile was a piece of a Twizzler. I made it from a 9x13 pan, and made a paper stencil before cutting to make sure I would have enough cake. I wanted him to have a humpy shell to be more 3D, but by the time I carved the guy, I was exhausted and decided it was ok to be flat :) Huge hit with the birthday girl! March 2008. TFL!

Resident Evil Cake
I made this cake for my brother's birthday. My family loves zombie movies, so this was right up his alley. Did a FBCT for the Umbrella logo, and the zombie hand is rice krispies treats covered in green fondant, which I then went back in and stipple painted with black and brown to get it to look more "dead". Finished product also had chocolate graham cracker crumbs for dirt around the base and fondant worms, but was too big to upload. PM me if you'd like me to email a different view. March 2008. TFL!

Baby Shower Cupcakes
A huge baby boom hit my office, but fortunately I was spared for now! Mommy-to-be wanted chocolate cupcakes, and they were iced in canned vanilla icing. Some babies were smiling and laughing, some babies were crying! My hand started cramping, so I ended up doing some of them swirly in solid colors, which I ended up loving when they were all on the stand. January 2008. TFL!

Tinkerbell
My stepmomma is nuts about Tinkerbell, and asked me to make her a Tinkerbell cake. I had not yet tried the FCBT method, so I knew I couldn't actually make her out of cake. When I found the candlle, the rest just popped into my head. French vanilla cake, iced in caned vanilla icing. Candy flowers were used as an accent. October 2007. TFL!

My Litttle Pony
The birthday girl wanted a My LIttle Pony cake. My skills are not yet advanced enough to make a pony out of cake, so I opted for a sky scene instead. The cake was chocolate and was filled with a cookies and cream filling. Canned vanilla icing was colored and used for the sky scene and top. There's also a purple border around the top and bottom, and the purple was much more vivid than they appear in this pic. September 2007. TFL.

Jack O' Lantern
Happy Halloween! Made with 2 bundt cakes, one chocolate, one vanilla. Iced in canned vanilla icing, which is when I switched to making my own icing for cakes! Used so much gel dye to get the cake orange that the icing wouldn't firm up and kept smearing! After the cake, I found the orange color spray. Figures. Stem was an ice cream cone covered in green candy melts. Face piped on. October 2007. TFL!
