Grill
This cake was done in celebration of a Navy family returning to town. They were lured to a cook-out which was really a surprise homecoming party. The cooked hamburgers are chocolate rice krispie treat with cocoa powder and black powder dust. The raw hamburgers are regular rice krispies mixed with Americolor red, dried and then combined to make rice krispie treats. The hot dogs are treats wrapped in fondant. The charcoal is a combination of red, yellow, cocoa and black powders dusted and smeared onto marshmallow halves with my fingers. The grate is grey royal icing. The cake is 3 layers, each 9" X 13" - strawberry, vanilla and chocolate with white chocolate ganache and covered in black fondant.

Nancy's Retirement
Made for a home ec teacher who was the JV cheerleading sponsor and ran the school restaurant. She's a fan of FSU and was retiring to Tennessee. The recipe box included some of her best known meals and the cookie cutters represent some of her previous cookie requests. Two layers of vanilla cake with a chocolate buttercream. Fondant and gum paste accents. For some reason the black gel paste writing on the megaphone grew veins over night and the lettering was not as nice the next day. I didn't like the pom-pom but couldn't really decide how to do it (the orange and white blob of stripes).

Lego Head
3 6" rounds stacked and covered in yellow buttercream. 4" round on top for 'nub'. Legos on the board are chocolate molds. I made marshmallow pops to take to school. I used a giant campfire sized marshmallow with a small marshmallow on top and dipped in yellow candy melts. When the candy hardened, I painted the faces in black.

Syd's Dragon
Vanilla cake with strawberry and ganache center. I used 2 oval pans, carving the tail and neck from the larger one. I built up the legs and face with (Duff) fondant. Scales and features are fondant. I used a small piping tip (both ends) and an apple corer to get the different sized scales. Scales on legs are made with a drinking straw. Wings are rice paper. Fire is modeling chocolate. Disco dust brushed all over. Made for a 16th birthday girl.
