Princess Cake For 1St Birthday
I made this cake for my great niece who turned 1, and the theme of the party was "Princesses". This was my first time trying rolled buttercream (the recipe was from Cake Central), and it worked out pretty good... much softer than fondant but it tasted so much better! Thanks to the tutorial and advice from members on how to do the royal icing tiara & create the pillow cake. This was vanilla bean butter cake with dulce de leche filling and caramel icing. I'd also never done cake jewelry before but it was fun - have always wanted to do it since I've seen them on Ace of Cakes and Challenge and they always have looked so pretty!

Flower Cookie Bouquets
A variety of flower-shaped cookies I made for the staff at different doctor's offices and the hospital ward that took care of me. Sugar cookies with lemon royal icing, with Oreo crumbs to look like dirt. These were so much work to do, but I was so happy with the results, and the staff were so happy to get them in time for morning coffee break!

Happy Birthday Fishing Cake
Made this for my father-in-law's 73rd birthday, as he loves fishing. Cream cheese & buttercream frosting over an Italian Cream Cake (with cream cheese & raspberry jam fillings). The little fishing guy is made from fondant. The pan had a well in the centre which worked perfectly for the water area, which I made with colored Knox gelatin which I poured in the tinfoil-lined cake pan to get the water-like crinkles. Chocolate rocks and yogurt colored raisins for accents. This cake was SOOO much fun to make!!!

Skateboad Birthday Cake
Ever want to see a 10-year old skateboard-loving boy's eyes light up? Did this cake for my nephew's birthday. Covered in fondant with buttercream barbed wire and vines. Used real trucks & wheels sitting on rice krispie cake to keep them from sinking in. Skull detail and logo at top were hand-colored with gel colors on a rice paper. Lots of work (and sticky!) - next time will pay for a custom image on rice paper from a edible ink printer.

Baby Shower Rubber Ducky Cookies
Given out as gifts when people left the party. Everyone loved them! The first time I've tried to do cookies so I was very pleased how they turned out...and I couldn't stop giggling when I had 30 decorated rubber duckies on my stove, all lined up, just sitting there looking at me. The cutest thing!

Baby Shower Cake
Thanks to all the CakeCentral members who have given hints on technique and ideas, this wouldn't have turned out as nice without you guys! I made this lemon cake for my best friend's baby shower. Buttercream water & bubbles. I used a balloon for the baby's head so that it wouldn't keep falling off. Imagine taking a cake to a baby shower with a decapitated baby on it --- bad idea! This is the first cake I've done that has been this involved and the mom was absolutely thrilled (as were the guests).

Wilton's Course 3: Final Cake
Oh, why do they make us make such a cheesy-looking cake? With all the cool, imaginative, stunning tiered cakes you see nowadays, we have to make a final cake using pillars from leftover 1970's wedding cakes. Oh well. I did the best I could to make it look decent. Fondant covered cakes (yup, peanut butter tortes with peanut butter chocolate fudge icing) with white buttercream sotas on top. Fondant roses & leaves.

Car Cake
This poor little cake was also made at 2 in the morning under a time constraint but the thought was there (aren't the Oreos cute?)! The birthday guy owns a automotive repair shop and the cake was a hit anyway, even with the store-bought frosting that kept sliding off. It kinda looked like my car cake needed an appointment at his shop! :)
