Blue Hydrangea
Although this cake was a simple design, I stressed about it for months. The bride wanted orange cake, which I had never made, so I had to work out a recipe for that. Then the cake was going to have to travel over 100 miles on back country roads. Then the reception was outside in the Oklahoma heat and humidity (98 degrees and 70-80% humidity). All worked out well though. The cake was iced in special icing, then covered in fondant. The hydrangeas were gumpaste a the color went from a very pale blue to a darker baby blue. The two figures on top were hand sculpted baby wolves.

Takeout-Open_Cake_Surgery.jpg
This cake dealt with humidity and a long travel...It did not make it. I made this cake for a friend (fortunately) for a chinese themed wedding shower. I wanted it to look like the Charm City Cakes "chinese takeout box" but something happened in the journey and the base of the cake was compromised. This made the cake just crumble underneath, and you could see it starting to crack on top. I tried to perform emergency surgery, but it could not recover from the damage. I wish i could have seen it done. It would have been a really cool cake.
