Dentures And Polident
I made this for a co-worker's 50th birthday. It's all fondant. I cut each tooth individually and attached to the cake. Using the ball tool, I flattened the edges of the tooth and made an indention where the gums come up over the tooth a bit. Super pearl dust made the teeth "pearly white."

Orange Croc Purse Cake
Buttercream icing and fondant accents. I let the fondant pieces dry on a cookie sheet before adding them to the cake, but that was a mistake. I should have made the fondant pieces and added them right away. I used a cobblestone texture mat to make the crocodile texture in the buttercream. I dipped the impression mat in watered down brown food color before pressing it onto the cake. That really added to the texture, I think. Crumpled parchment rolled over fondant makes a great leather texture.

Treasure Chest Cake
Chocolate cake with double chocolate buttercream (recipe from this site...yum!); fondant accents and lots of candy for the pirate's "booty";graham crackers for sand. Made from a 9 x 13 cut in half and stacked for chest base and 8" half rounds (3 layers) stacked sideways for the rounded top. I carved a little wedge in the rounds for an opening. Used watered down super black color to "age" the chest - just painted it over the buttercream. Paring knife made the wood grain. Thx to all here for the ideas!

Birthday Cake For A Quilter/sewing Enthusiast
I made this for my mom's surprise 60th birthday party. She loves to sew and quilt, so I used that as a theme and incorporated her favorite colors. I used 6" (white cake) and 10" (choc) layers, all iced in very vanilla buttercream with fondant accents (buttons and strips of ric-rac, ribbon, fabric). The spool is made from stacked shortbread cookies, iced with a tad of buttercream, covered with a sheet of green fondant and then wrapped with individual "threads." Used a round cutter for top and bottom.

Piping Gel Flowers And Wafer Paper Butterflies
This was another cake completed in my intermediate class. We did piping gel tranfers for the outlines of the flowers, and then painted them with colored piping gel. The butterfly is made from wafer/rice paper using edible markers for the color. I went with a bit of a 70s vibe for this cake. The lavender piping gel was much less muted in person.

Mini-Monster Cake
From Debbie Brown's 50 Easy Party Cakes book, but modified to look like my neice's favorite monster, Sully. I covered the cakes and made the parts (feet, arms, eyes, etc.) and the kids "glued" everything together and painted spots with violet luster dust. They had such a great time! Wish I'd gotten a more clear photo.

Baby Shower Cake
Baby shower cake for a boy -- all buttercream with chocolate fondant circles and baby hair. The chocolate borders are buttercream and face details. The pacifier is a green apple candy in a buttercream base. I should have drawn a smile on the face coming out from the pacifier...next time. It's a single layer 8" on top of a quarter sheet cake. I had never used fondant and wanted to try it. I thought rolling it and then just cutting circles would be an easy way to start.

Lsu Eye Of The Tiger Cake
This was a birthday cake with an LSU theme. It's a German chocolate cake, with German chocolate frosting on the sides and between the layers. The top is a FBCT to look like an eye of the LSU tiger -- based on a new logo the school uses. This was my first FBCT. It was a really fun technique to try -- and I learned it here.
