Ladybug Cake
I made this cake for a coworker who was leaving for a new job. She loves ladybugs. The top layer is a 4" round and the bottom is a 6" round. Double chocolate fudge cake iced in buttercream and covered in fondant. All of the decor is fondant. I used luster dust to paint the ladybugs, flowers and trim.

Maryland Crab And Beer Cake
The cake is marble, iced in buttercream. The brown "paper" and crab mallets are fondant, the crabs are candy melts, the beer cans are candles with the wicks cut off and the mugs are plastic filled with yellow piping gel and topped with buttercream. I made this for my office's August birthday celebration. I was trying to think of something summery, and I'm in Maryland, and nothing is more summery than crabs and beer!

Shamrock Cake
I made this for a work function and on the way into the building my husband DROPPED it. It tipped over and somehow I grabbed it and shoved it back on the cake board. You can't tell too much from this angle, but the back has 3 finger holes and some of the border fell off. Once it was on the table, no one could tell. The top is chocolate fudge with buttercream filling/icing and covered in green Satin Ice. The bottom is the same, but butter cake. Shamrocks are candymelts. It is painted with pearl dust.

Hello Kitty
This is the cake I made for my office's January Birthday Celebration. My birthday is in January and I collect Hello Kitty, so I figured that since I had to make my own birthday cake, I'd at least make one that I wanted! The bottom layer is a 10" round made of butter cake with raspberry filling. The top layer is also a 10" round that I trimmed to make the face. It is chocolate fudge cake. All iced with buttercream.

Valentine Cake
I made this cake for my office's February Birthday Celebration. There were a lot of SNAFUs, so the actual cake came from Safeway. I called and bought undecorated 9" rounds. I hated to have to do that, but desperate times call for desperate measures. So it is yellow cake, buttercream icing and edible pearls. I hate using buttercream, but my office does not want fondant on cakes because they are afraid people won't like it.

Brown Bow
This is my 5th attempt with fondant. My first "3-D" fondant cake. I had so much trouble making the brown fondant. First I tried making candy clay and rolling it out. Didn't work. Then I had to mix an entire jar of brown gel paste to get it to be brown. But then it was so soft it was unusable. So I added a bunch of gum-tex to it. But it was still very hard to work with. I made it for my coworker's birthday. Not too bad, as a coworker purchased the same cake from me for Thanksgiving (this week!).
