My 1St Whimsical Cake
My first attempt at a whimsical cake. I learned a LOT and my fondant skills leave much to be desired, but not a single thing went wrong with the delivery, etc and my friend LOVED IT! That was the best part :) Chocolate cake, chocolate BC filling, covered in ganache then MMF. The wire thingys at the top were all squirrely - I fixed them after this photo!

Big Kahuna Volcano Cake
Whew. This was my last big cake before going into semi-retirement to have my baby last year. The cake is on a 21"x21" plywood base. The cake is stacked rounds, from 12" up to 6" rounds, covered in choc. BC. RI lava, pretzel/RI palm trees, totem pole is RKT covered in fondant, detail in RI. Obviously dry ice for the volcano smoke. Why the Dixie plate for the sign? I had a gumpaste "shield" that replicated the invitation (see photos). But my DH, in trying to help me set up the dry ice, spilled boiling water all over the yellow gumpaste shield which was decorated in RI. It melted and I didn't have another. So we whipped out a dixie plate and used the only (yellow) icing I could salvage to write "Happy Birthday". It was the one and only cake disaster I've ever had, and it broke my heart. Oh well! TFL...

Black, White, Red And Silver
This was my adaptation of a Collette Peter's cake in her book Cakes to Dream On. I made it for my great-aunt's 95th birthday. She loves to play penny poker and I thought the design was reminiscent of the suits in a deck of cards. She loved it! The top two tiers are 5" and 8" cake dummies, and the bottom is a 10" white almond cake with strawberry bc filling. Covered in fondant with RI topper.

Minnie Mouse
I've loved jaklotz1's Minnie Mouse cake so much, and have always wanted to do it. So when a friend asked to make an all-BC Minnie Mouse cake for her daughter, I knew I had to try it. This is an 8" round with 4" round ears. If I do this again I'll try a slightly different approach. Oh yeah - this was also my first attempt at writing in the Disney font. Ha!

Giant Monster Truck
This was one of my favorites to do so far. Cake base is plywood, measuring 20"x24". This thing weighed a ton! Wheels are styrofoam covered in MMF. Undercarriage is painted wood, which was screwed down to the base. The truck is all cake covered in MMF. They're 8" square cakes stacked and carved on top. Chocolate cake with oreo cookies 'n cream filling.
