My first tiered cake. Push in pillars made that very easy! Chocolate Explosion Cake with whipped ganache filling (YUMMY!) and chocolate fudge frosting. Royal icing roses. Scroll work on the sides (first time doing that, too). I was trial running this flavor combo. for our future wedding cake, so decided to post it here. I learned a lot on this cake! Chocolate frosting warms up and thins out a lot in the bag as you decorate with it. Glad it turned out OK. Tastes good!

For my grandmother's 75th Birthday. She didnt want to cut it open! It's a royal icing flood on the 75, painted with gold luster dust. Pink fondant. Fondant/Gumpast 3-tier rufle. Royal icing lace points. Lots of work. Only because I love my grandmother so much :)

Okay, I really had trouble with my fondant this weekend. It looked absolutely perfect when I first put it on the cake, then all of the sudden, everything shifted and slid down the sides of the cake. I almost didn't post it because I"m so embaressed, but I know that we all learn from our mistakes, so I'd be happy to hear your comments. I was happy with the decorations though. The bride, my best friend, wanted bead work to look like the pattern on her dress, and it turned out really well.

My boss was retiring and my depy asked if I could do a cake. He is a HUGE Star Trek nut (as am I:)) so I came up with a simple yet masculine cake for him. The symbol is a Star Trek symbol with the state of VA in the center. Everybody loved it!

This cake gave me such a fit for some reason. I've been up 33 hours straight because of this cake. We've had LOT'S of heavy rain the past 2 days and I don't know, maybe that had something to do with it. But I've never had one split open on the side and burst the filling out till this cake. I repaired the bottom tier 3 times. Then when I got there with it and was setting up, the middle tier wanted to do the same thing. I'm just so happy this wedding is over. They loved their cake, but it's not great.

This is the cake that occupied my week! I'm so glad this thing is finished. It's not really my choice of style and I was so stressed out trying making sure I got all the plastic to the wedding!!

This was the final cake for course 1. My sister takes the course with me and on the way to class she dropped her cake, not once but twice. She was so upset, and I felt so bad because she worked so hard on it. So, this cake was done by me and my sister. (team work) I think WE did a pretty good job!!

Birthday cake for another potluck at work. Not at all the design I had in mind. Wanted to do basketweave and roses, but ran out of time and whipped icing wasn't cooperating lol. I'm sure they'll still like it. *crossing fingers*

I used to work for a company that sold these travel pillows. For the company picnic one year I attempted to make two of the travel pillows joined together. It was a big hit, but once the cake was on the cardboard there was no way I was going to be able to move it to get rid of those grease stains.
One of the cakes is chocolate and the other is white, both have buttercream frosting and I used 4 horseshoe shaped cakes (two for each cake.)

This was done using the teqchnique I learned in a lida Snow class. I used the flat side oif a basketweave tip. You just mke whatever size bricks you desire then stagger the next row. You can fill in or leave the spaces as is.

Brides colors were Chocolate Brown and Soft Pink, which is the color of the scroll work on the ivory cakes. Flowers that were to be on the cake were no where to be found, so we made do with some table decorations and the throw bouquet (which we saved some and made a new one for her).

This was a 4 tier wedding cake that I did for display and tasting. It was chocolate, vanilla, lemon, and strawberry with buttercream icing. Everyone loved it and I got a picture to put in my portfolio.

This was the cake I did for this past weekend. It is white cake with butter pecan mousse filling and chocolate cake with german choc filling (coconut pecan). It is all iced with IMBC. The flowers are all fresh. There is some scroll work next to the flower swag that may be hard to see. Thanks for looking!

Very simple cake for a friend. Her husband asked me to make something pretty and colorful but told me that her favorite colors are BLUE and BLACK. Now, how colorful can you get!! Well, here it is.

I made this for a friend's wedding. 16,12,and 8 inch size cakes. Fondant bows, swiss dots, free-handed scroll work and reverse shell border. Lots of time went into planning this cake, and I think that it came out great.

I took a class in Toronto over the last few weeks and this was our final project. The dummy cake is covered in fondant and then all the detail is done with royal icing. I am not happy with the topper but that was part of the class.

This is a 4 tier with chocolate cake and white cake with butter cream icing done with free hand scroll work and bead borders. The bride had a monogram for the cake top and I place vines and berries around the cake. I did two side cakes that were 12 x 18 in carrot cake with home made cream cheese icing. They had the monogram initial on the top of each cake writting in icing and scroll work all along the sides of the cakes.

Just practiced string work on the practice board and had to come home and try it on a cake. The colors are not what I would normally choose,.. just trying to use up some icing leftover from other cakes, and it's just for practice. I was quite pleased with how even everything came out and the ruffles look pretty good too if I do say so myself! :) Thanks to everyone here for all the great inspiration and ideas, feedback and sharing.

Chocolate cake covered with ganache & decorated as construction site for a 7 year old boy. Hill is coated with biscuit crumbs, chocolate pebbles as rocks, pritzels as logs on digger, crushed oreos as dirt. Writing was melted chocolate on jelly strips. Each side of caution messages are different.

I made this cake when the store I work at re-opened after a move to a new location. There was a lot of work to do - unpacking and setting up the store and we had lots of help from staff at other locations. When lunch rolled around, everyone was thrilled to have some cake!

I got this idea from another website (can't remember)! My son's cake for himself! I made this in a pyrex bowl and used a cupcake for the brim of the hat. My son is so into construction and firetrucks!
