Everything on and in this cake is from scratch. This recipe is at least 5 generations old in my family. This/my family's recipe for Red Velvet is a four bowl, four layer receipe.

One should never take shortcuts when making a red velvet. Baking veterans can spot the "imitation" cakes a mile a way. Remember, your cake is a refleciton of you.

Besides, as I always say...FROSTING IS NOT THE ENEMY!!!

No special occassion just wanted to practice. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling well and didn't do all that I wanted to do to it. I almost didn't post it but I figured I may as well since I made it and it wasn't chocolate.

This is a cake I made for the birthday of a co-worker. It's Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese frosting and buttercream decoration. I have NO idea where I was going with this cake!!! LOL Maybe a circus theme??? This cake is why I need to start planning out my cakes and stop decorating on a whim!!! LOL I'm not very crazy about this cake but oh well :)

These were the wedding favours for 2 grooms last night. They wanted to somehow blend Americana with Canadiana....so I made Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting, edged them with pecans and then topped each one with a red maple leaf in marzipan!

They fit perfectly in the large Chinese take-out containers so the guests could take them home easily. I used the frosted white plastic ones for a bit prettier look.

This cake is red velvet with a cream cheese frosting. The dragon is an exact copy of the birthday girls tattoo. I took the tattoo print and enlarged it (see in my album) and then cut it out. After the icing had chilled a bit I used black gel icing to fill it in and that was about it. A tedious task but it turned out great I think. And it was the hit of the Chinese themed bday party.

Red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. I made the flower arrangement myself with silk flowers... next time I'm just icing the flowers on the cake, this was too much trouble, but I was having difficulty making flowers with icing that had as much coloring in it as this shade of purple needed. I'll get it eventually, but roses intimidate me.

My second steak cake. My DH asked me to create another steak cake for the Minnesota Deer Hunter’s Association raffle so he can get his buddies to bid on it! He also asked me to put on the USDA Prime stamp. It is a single layer red velvet – that’s right – red velvet cake. Thanks for looking.

I made this Red Velvet cake for a co-worker that is transferring departments and shifts. Tomorrow night is her last night and she requested this cake. She said that knowing she was getting one of my Red Velvet Cakes was the only thing preventing her from calling in sick on her last day!! LOL

Finally got this loaded! This was last 12/'05 wedding cake for our dear daughter Tiff and her lovely groom Alan.Started on the royal icing snowflakes months in advance. You can't tell in the picture very good, but the snowflakes were all different. They had edible pearls, dragees, rhinestones & glitter.Cake was red velvet to keep in w/the Christmas theme. It was such a joy to do this for her. She's such a sweet daughter!! The cake base was glass blocks w/white lights in the center to simulate a block of ice

This cake was for a bride who LOVES butterflies! It was covered in fondant with fondant ribbons. The butterflies were gumpaste. Two of the tiers were red velvet cake with cream cheese filling, one tier was almond cake filled with raspberry mousse, and the top tier was a very strong rum cake.

My boss wanted a red velvet cake for her hubby's bday and it was my 1st attempt at making it and I am not sure how the cake turned out, but omg!!! the frosting was to die for!!!! She wanted a basic design with a post-it note telling him what his gift was... the tennis lessons. The sides I just added some mini marshmallows for the border since I couldn't really pipe with the frosting cuz it kept melting cuz of the butter in it. I figured since there was melted marshmallows in the frosting I would use them.

A friend asked me to do a three tiered square fontant wedding cake. I said yes, when I should have just ran away screaming. She is coming over tonight to do a "taste test" and so I made two mini cakes for her to try. One is two layers red velvet with Cream Cheese covered in Satin Ice. The second is one layer red velvet one layer white, with cream cheese and Satin Ice. She also wanted writing on the cake and a ribbon. The only ribbon I had was black and I freehanded one and used a stencil on the other.

First wedding cake ever and I want to say NEVER AGAIN!!! I say that, but will propably do it again, just not soon. It was White and Red velvet with cream cheese filling and mint buttercream covered in 2-layers Satin Ice and 2 Layers MMF. That is a whole story in and of itself. The cake tasted great, but not happy with anything else. Oh well, Live and learn. BTW 150 Roses on the cake! OUCH in the pocketbook! Thanks to all of you who helped me get this cake DONE!! You are all life (and cake) savers!

This is a picture of a red velvet cake -recipe used is "Sarah's red velvet cake", also listed in the recipe section on cakecentral. While the frosting job is simple, and is not spectacular, the cake is a vibrant red, and is a lovely Christmas, or Valentines cake.

My husband's Aunt asked me to help her with a "Holiday Open House" in her home this weekend. She requested I make a red velvet cake for her guests. This cake was 6 layers, all made from scratch, with cream cheese icing, decorated with silk poinsettias. The guests were thrilled to have a slice of cake that took up the whole plate. Needless to say, this cake, along with the chocolate fondue fountain, was a big "wow" factor. The Open House was a huge success. I wish you happy holidays!

This is the Betty Boop birthday cake I made for my 12-year old daughter. It is moist red velvet cake filled with dark chocolate mousse and seedless raspberry jam. Frosted with whipped cream butter cream - Betty is my first FBCT. I topped it off with one of the lips sugar cookies I made for the party favors. My daughter loved it!

This is the first wedding cake I've ever made. Each of the layers is a red velvet cake, which I had never even heard of prior to this! The kicker to the whole story is that I was also the best man at the wedding! :)
