This is a Wilton Pan, Topsy Turvy Cake.  I added too much icing to the top, so it doesn't really look too topsy turvy though.  haha

This was a 3-layer, 2-tier topsy turvy cake made with a dense chocolate fudge cake and bc icing.  The figurines were toys.  I made it using the instructions posted here.  Thanks BKeith!!

This cake was made for my best friend's birthday. It is my first topsy turvy cake and the cookies are homade. The green oose on the top layer is colorflo icing. Everything is edible except for the spider rings on the second layer.

First of all, thank you to BKeith for your article. I had done this cake before, but you gave me the confidence to try again...my angles were sharper and I think it was overall better this time!

I was in love with the retro 1942 topper they gave me for this cake...from their aunt's wedding. SO special!

The cake's flavours were Lime Spongecake with Toasted Coconut Buttercream and the bottom tier was Dark Chocolate with Chocolate Buttercream.

Just got my new WBH book so I decided to try and replicate the Whimsical cake in there.  Woah, there's a LOT of colours in this thing!! So this is my first WBH cake, first stacked cake, first big cake, first "public" cake (ie not for family). Hope it tastes good... 
WBH coffee-chocolate flavour, with crushed Oreo & whipped cream filling. Surprisingly not overly sweet. I hope the flavour of the cake/filling can combat the taste of the Wilton gel colour which is present in the icing.

My brother is in Pharmacy school, so I decided to decorate his brithday cake with things related to his life currently.  

The perscription bottle is for him being in pharmacy school and the pink elephant for his fun drinking parties with his pharmacy school friends (related it to Dumbo, but have since heard many other references for pink elephants).  And I made the cake topsy turvy for the whole on pills and drunk effect.

Cake was chocolate with cookies & cream filling and all decorated in fondant.

My son kept asking for a Batman cake, so I thought I'd try a whimsical cake.  It's a mini cake at only 6 1/2 inches tall and iced in BC.  The yellow part of the Batman sign on top is MMF, as are the red smashes and the city.  I used piping gel to outline all the details.

Top tier is butter cake with strawberries & cream filling, bottom tier is chocolate cake with cookies & cream filling. Iced in Kaye's buttercream.

This cake was a prototype from my daughters 6th birthday, the original idea was to have it covered in retro candy but being a fickel five year old she decided to go in another direction, but I was so into the slanted cake I wanted to see if I could pull it off.

This was SO much easier to do in buttercream! I'll never go back to struggling to cover these tiers in fondant!!

Did the wild colours with Americolor dyes, fondant detailing. Cheshire cat in gumpaste. Pearls in fondant dusted with irridescent powder.

Cake is Pistachio with Passionfruit buttercream, Dark Chocolate with Grand Marnier buttercream & Banana with Coconut buttercream.

Top layer white cake, middle layer half white half chocolate, bottom layer all chocolate.  Iced in Vanilla Almond Buttercream with MMF ribbon roses, balls and rope borders.  Candy melts Happy Birthday painted with gold lustre dust.

This cake was a nightmare to make, so many things went wrong with it, and it made me sick with worry because i didnt think it was going to make it to the reception in one piece. Not having the proper boards and dowels like the instructions in CC didnt help. The base cracked, the icing cracked, i had to take it apart twice and reassemble and patch it up!!!
I made the bride and groom a few weeks earlier out of gumpaste, at least I know already that the bride and groom liked those as I sent them a picture.

This is my first attempt at topsy turvy.  As you can tell I did the bottom layer first, (not as pretty as the top)  This was a family event, my husband and Son were supposed to make it all but husband had a mid term so I made the cake, frosting, fondant, sugar sticks and floss and assembled the cake and they did decorations.

This is my daughter's 7th birthday cake.  My 1st attempt at the 'topsy turvy' cake, it was fun, but time consuming.  The few hours before this cake was to be at the party, I had a little mishap wherein one side got too heavy with too little support underneath and decided to cave in on me.  Talk about last minute repairs!!!  This picture was taken after the mishap, though, so all turned out fine.

Topsy Turvy cake.  Bottom 8"-3 layers.  Top 5"-1layer and 6"-2layers.  Made this for my 24th Golden Birthday last week.  Butterfly's color flow wings and royal icing bodies.  Roses BC, Daisies royal icing.  White cake with BC filling and covered with MMF.  This cake had to come together a lot faster than I wanted it too b/c of my schedule the week before and the day of the party.  But once it was all done I was pretty happy with it.  I did break my topper the day of the party and was quite dissapointed =(

First time doing a topsy-turvy...had to travel 2 1/2 hours with it!  Groom wanted color scheme of black, white, silver to match reception.  Had a few "bumps" along the way that I had to fix....have better ideas what to do next time I need to make one.

This is my first topsy-turvy cake.  It is covered in fondant.  The bottom tier is chocolate and the top two layers are yellow butter.  The masks are handmade from fondant and painted with luster dusts.  I'm pretty happy with how it came out.  The birthday girl was really excited about it!

Top tier is strawberry, middle chocolate and bottom white cake. I'm not so happy about the overall shape, but it was my first whimsical cake and I only had two days notice (gotta love those last minute orders!)... it was certainly a learning experience. I'm looking forward to doing another one, maybe with a bit more time to plan next time.

This cake was cursed from the moment I took the order last year at 50% off the price I would usually charge. The customer was practically in tears begging for it to fit into her "budget", then I found out her venue was one of the most expensive hotels in the city! More fool me. I've said it before and I'll say it again...don't lower your prices. A server at the hotel ripped off one side of my fondant board after I asked him to please not attempt to move the cake. Grrr!!!! Glad this one is done.

this is the first shaped cake that i made...i always use the 8" round pan for my practice cakes...i couldn't smooth out the icing and the vertical lines and the spirals are breaking...is my icing too thick? it also happens when i use the star tip...there are no pointed tips on the stars... i used all crisco on my bc icing...

The top tier was lemon w/ lemon SMBC, middle tier was lemon w/ lemon SMBC & filled with Kahlua Raspberry filling, base tier was chocolate w/ chocolate SMBC filling & icing. Homemade fondant (Toba's recipe) decorations. I had SO much fun doing this cake!!  Please feel free to critique & offer suggestions for improvement!!

Made this for teachers appreciation week.  The flowers and coverings are all white chocolate or fixed fondant.  This is my first crooked cake.  Man was I nervous to put that dowel through!!!!  IT worked out well though :)

This is my first atempt at a Topsy cake. The top layer could be a little more angled, but I thought it was super for my first try. It was soooo much fun to decorate. The flowers are made from royal icing, did them on wax paper. Royal icing decoration (first time with that-loved it) cream cheese icing with a strawberry and vanilla cake, 9 and 6 in.

The cake is a Topsy Turvy cake covered with fondant and the tulips and details on the side are made out of gumpaste.
