What a fun cake to make. It was a hard concept to adapt to cake. I had great inspiration from Shirley W. and Cakelady5. Thank you ladies! The eggs and ham are fondant, trees are royal on toothpicks, grumpy is done in chocolate transfer and the egg is all BC done with a half of a ball pan and just icing for the egg white part. Thanks for looking!

I made this as an end of the year thank you and goodbye cookie for my daughter's teacher who is retiring. Her favorite children's book is Horton hatches an egg by doctor seuss. It is a large cookie. I am guessing close to 8 x 10 inches. Just plain sugar cookie with royal icing. I printed a picture of the cookie out as a keepsake with the words: Thank you for hatching a prepared third grader and put it on the back of the cookie board before I wrapped it in saran.

This was my son's first birthday cake. The entire cake was "smashed" on one side to look like he had crawled up it to reach his smash cake (the top tier). Each tier was made for a favorite bedtime book: The bottom is Goodnight Moon with lines from the book printed and illustrated around the tier. The next is "I Love You Through and Through" again with the main line printed and the teddy bear from the book. The final tier was "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish".

Cake for a friend's baby shower. It was all new to me - it's a whimsical cake, but the angle of the main picture doesn't really show it. The characters were gumpaste plaques painted to look like the characters. I can't stand that my fondant isn't smooth (humidity issues, I guess), but I love the little characters!

my first attempt at a "whimsy" cake and boy was it a challenge! It was for a baby shower and the mom is obsessed with Seuss (baby's nursery is amazing!) It was fun to make. Iced in BC with fondant accents, and some laminated pieces from a board game my son had; the top hat is RKT covered in fondant. Thanks to andisc for her help!

I made this cake for a four year old boy's birthday party. His favorite book is The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss and wanted a cake with Truffula Trees and Brown Bar-ba-loots. He loved it!

(The cake is covered in fondant with gumpaste accents.)

Another Colette knock-off, for my daughter's green and pink b-day. 6" cake with 5 layers of marble cake, filled and crumbcoated with semisweet ganache and covered with mint-flavored homemade fondant (Toba's recipe). I had lots of fun doing this; thanks for looking.

This is one of my earliest cakes. The icing cracked because the board wasn't sturdy enough. Learned my lesson. The pictures are handpainted with buttercream icing.

This is a very dense pound cake carved into a ham shape. It is covered in green fondant and the black "etchings" are royal icing. The eggs are fondant with some piping gel brushed on to make them shiny. The fork is molded gumpaste around a bamboo skewer and inserted when dry.

I was trying to make a whimsical cake and didn't feel like I had the patience, so I just off-centered each cake. It did look like it was going to fall over. He LOVED it!!
