I actually got this idea by combining a couple of cakes I saw on this site. They don't look as good as the ones that I have seen, but it was a really fun cake to make. I made this as a surprise for my boss' 50th birthday. We thought a 50's theme would be fun!

Musical record cake for a birthday for someone born in 1964. Two layer 8" round chocolate cake with raspberry fluff filling. All covered in Pettinice and everything is edible except the wires for the treble cleft topper. Your critique will only help me get better and is appreciated!

A friend wanted this for her DJ boyfriend, and this was definitely a first for me! I used fondant for all of the decorations, and just made two 8" rounds, and placed them side by side. For the microphone, I used Rice Krispie treats, and then covered it with fondant, and painted it with Luster Dust. She wanted a crab around because he sometimes gets "crabby"...

I made this cake for my mothers 50th birthday party, which was the 50's theme. Everything is buttercream icing except for the skirt it is fondant. The poodle is a patch I bought. The records were iced and then I took a comb & made the lines, and the label is fondant. This cake is really easy.

I Love the Fifties...and was really excited to get a chance to make a cake like this!
All the little things on the cake (Poodle skirt, Shoes, Records..) They are All made from Fondant!
I used the back side of a Tip to cut out the Records then used the Small part of a tip to cut out the middle of the records...and also to cut out the little holes in the shoes for the shoe strings.

OMG - I have never been so glad to be done with something in my life. This is for the owner of a Bar & Grill here in town, called The Crowbar. colors are depicting of the logo, which I made into a cookie and leaned against second layer. My first try at smoothing the CBC and you would know I ran out of paper towels, used Wax Paper. MMF diamonds, stars, music notes, record on top. NFSC "40" and crow. Of course, I think it's awful. Hopefully he'll like it - he's my part-time boss! haha

OMG, this was such a pain!! LOL I had trouble with my black borders. My tip kept clogging with Wilton's chocolate icing. Also, one of the records broke (Happy Birthday record). I quickly camouflaged it with a tiny record. Whew, thank God for quick thinking! Yellow Sour Cream Almond Cake with white cookies and cream filling and buttercream icing. All icing in black is chocolate. Letters and notes are made from home made stencil. Records and pearls are fondant. I'm so glad this is over! LOL

I made this cake for DH's show at the Shrine on St. Patrick's day. The top tier is lemon with raspberry filling, the middle tier is french vanilla with green BC filling and the bottom tier is chocolate with french vanilla pudding filling. I made the microphone out of a toy that I covered in fondant. All accents are fondant.

I made this cake for my cousin a music fanatic that just turned 40! The writing wasn't great, but this was my first attempt at a gum paste modeled head. It was SOOOOOOOOOOO much fun. I am offically addicted to modeling! record is MMF painted black. Writing is horrible, just need to practice, practice, practice =) thanks for looking

I made this cake for the county fair last year (2006). I was so thrilled it was the grand champion cake of the whole cake decorating entries. It's 11x15 with buttercream icing, fbct of Elvis- I traced the picture from an album cover, and fondant accents.
