This is a cake made in the Wilton guitar pan and made to look like a baby rattle and then stacked on a 12"x18" sheet cake. Everything is fondant and the sheet cake was airbrushed yellow.

After buttercream dried slightly, I made indentions with a ruler. I piped the decorations with buttercream, but they could be made ahead with royal icing.

I should have stacked one block on top of the other two (centered) Darn it!!
The cake is carrot and was so difficult to ice that I will charge $10 extra next time for this flavor cake. Sugar decorations are from Sugarcraft.com.

The picture is horrible! The cake is 1/2 & 1/2 with buttercream(white) icing and then a white cake made in half the sportsball pan for the rattle. The saying came off of this site somewhere...

My first cake submitted to this gallery! I made this cake yesterday for my son's teacher's surprise baby shower at school today. I got the idea from a 1985 Wilton's catalog. I used writing tips, ruffle tips, a weaving tip, glitter & letter press. The colors are sky blue & lemon yellow. The cake itself is 12x18 and I used half a ball pan for the rattle. It took 3 & 1/4th cake batters to make this cake. I used white boxed cake mix & added 2 tsp. extra vanilla & 1 tsp. baking powder and sifted the mix.

This one is for a customer that asked for a baby shower cake and wnated a baby object for the cake. I suggested the rattle because I knew how to make one. I think it turned out good.

Ducks, bottles, rattles. All buttercream, 1/2 sheet cake. So far, the faux fondant recipe on this site has been great for my figure piping and flowers. Thanks CC.

This is a full look of the baby shower cake I did this past weekend. It contained a dress, booties, a rattle and a BABY block. the cakes were yellow cake, the dress was filled with pineapple ( i am so tired of making this filling- but it is my friends and families favorite). I was a lot of work and a lot of cramped hands. My hand was so swollen the next day, had on ice all day Sunday. Otherwise it was a great honor for me to make this cake for this miracle baby.

Client provided invitation, so used those colors, but otherwise was left to create freely, they only requested chocolate cake with white frosting. Triple chocolate cake with ganache filling, BC icing, fondant accents, molded chocolate baby bottles and teddy bears. Fun to make for a first baby shower cake! (Only 3rd paid order, am loving this!!!) Thanks for looking!

This design was on a napkin from the shower decorations. It had a purlple gingham pattern and I wasn't sure how to imitate that so I did a light and dark purple basketweave. I think it turned out pretty cute.

This was the first cake I ever did for money. I was so nervous. There were only 5 women at the baby shower. Only the rattle ball is the cake. The handle is made up of a bread stick covered in icing and a powdered donut on the end. (heehee) I attached everything with dowel rods. I think the ribbon made it much cuter. I got the idea out of a baby magazine... don't remember which one.

This is a buttercream covered 6" and 8" baby shower cake. The rattle is made out of fondant/gumpaste and allowed to dry for a few days. The Bow is also a fondant/gumpaste mix. The rest of the cake decorations are made of buttercream.

This is my second attempt at a "professional" cake. The large portion of the cake is chocolate with chocolate pudding in the middle and the small portion of the cake is white cake with vanilla pudding. The frosting is BC. I received many compliments the one that stuck out in my heat the most was "Do you do this for a living?" I was so flattered! My response was... "I would love to, but no"...

It's supposed to be a baby rattle. I don't know if it looks like it, but everyone liked it. Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting.

I really loved making this cake. All decorations are fondant (except the laces on the booties and the canopy on the crib) The crib is cake as well.
I got a lot of inspiration from this site! Thanks :)

I wanted to try something different so I did the half cake on another cake. It turned out ok but nothing great. The girl I made it for thought it was adorable. It was chocolate and lemon with buttercream icing. The blocks and rattle are not edible.
