A friends son was turning 6 and wanted a cake that looked like watermelon, so this is what I came up with. The cake is iced in buttercream. The red is a circle of wafer paper sprayed red with food color spray. The seeds are black piping gel.

This cake was done for a benefit bbq. The entire cake was edible except for the grill grates which are made of foil and the shish-ke-bob sticks which are lollipop sticks. all of the "food" is made of candy clay. The cake is yellow and chocolate and the icing is chocolate fudge. I covered the board with a picnic tablecloth. Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy it.

This is the cake that I was making for the contest. Life got in the way and I didn't get it finished until today. Oh well, it was fun and good practice. My daughter can't wait to get her hands on the mice.

I saw this idea on the internet and thought it was cute. I made this for a 4th of July picnic party we had. The "plate and hotdogs" are starbursts, the "buns" are van waffers, the "hambergers" are peperment patties, and the "ants" are mini M&Ms

One of my favorites! The table is made from a full sheet. The watermelon and pizza are made from 10". Everything is buttercream and airbrush. The pepperoni are piping gel.

Made this cake for my dad's annual Labor day party. I'm not really a cookie decorator, but I had to for this cake! LOL. Basket is MMF and the fruits are "runts" candy.

Cake for my BIL's 40th Birthday tonight. He is a real wine connessier..he judges wine and also is a taster.I made the bottle using a tuna can cutting 1 inch thick circles and then gluing them side by side with icing on a board.Shaped the bottle of the neck smaller.Covered in fondant.Grape leaves are fondant with pearl dust, greapes fondant also.Label is regular paper as I didn't have any rice paper and I don't have an edible image printer.Came out okay for the first try....Fondant accents, tinted gel for wine.

I had so much fun doing this cake! Bottom is a torted 10" and the hamburger is a 6". I put enough batter in my pan so that when it baked it domed really well. Normally I would squish down any bump, so it was fun actually trying for one. Tablecloth is fondant with the checks painted on, the hamburger is buttercream with fondant lettuce and tomato. The bees and ladybug are fondant as well. Thanks to all those who have posted a hamburger cake in the gallery as I took inspiration from you all!

This is mudcake with chocolate ganache. This was the first time I had used ganache and had a lot of trouble with trying to get it neat and smooth. The cake was for a surprise 40th and I was given a description of what the couple looked like when they fell in love and had to come up with something so I decided on a romantic picnic. The red flowers, figures and picnic basket are modelling paste (gumpaste) and the leaves are piped royal icing.

We are having a BBQ at work today and all the associates will be voting on the best side dish and dessert. I brought in a 9" 2-layer white chocolate cake with white chocolate filling. It's covered in MMF and I handmade & handpainted all the food (made out of MMF too).

My 7 yr. old daughter made this. She had fun making the grass, and she tried SO hard to get the sides of her cake smooth! She made the little girl, blanket, picnic basket and fruit ALL by herself out of MMF!

This cake was inspired by my sister, who loves watermelon. I used it as a birthday cake but I think it would make a great 4th of July cake (something differernt from the usual American flag). The cake was strawberry, in four layers (2 round cakes split) with a dabb of strawberry icing, strawberry icing on top and outling the bottom, vanilla icing with green food coloring on the outside for the rind and chocolate chips were set at the top to play the "seeds".

This cake is a lucious lemon cake with a sweet raspberry filling. It is covered in a lightly flavored lemon buttercream. The tablecloth is done in fondant.
Unfortunately, our Labor Day picnic is probably going to be rained out by Ernesto!

This was my first time making food out of fondant. It was alot of fun. We laughed alot afterwards since the proportion sizes were a bit off though. The cake is iced in buttercream and the "food" is made in fondant

I had all sorts of ideas to do a picnic cake but ran out of time and wound up decorating this fondant-covered cake with edible ink markers. It is not my best, but was a huge success.

When I think of Independence Day, I think of all of the picnics and family gatherings! This is a 4th of July picnic scene, with a marshmallow fondant tablecloth, lemonade, watermelon, and apple pie!
