I decided to mess around with a paint brush. I used a non crusting buttercream icing. Next time I think I will try crusting. It was difficult to do detail. I love painting. It was so much fun.

Porter paint style can. The handle broke so I didn't have time to let the new one dry, I used candy sticks to hold it up. It was for my dad who teaches painting as a career to high school drop outs or kicked out teens.

This was a cake I made for my cousins birthday. She is a fan of both cats and painting. I tried using that marshmellow fondant for the paint can but it didn't work at all.

This is a 1/2 sheet 2 layer strawberry cake with vanilla mouse fillin cake layered and shaped to look like a paint palette. We added new real paint brushes as a gift for the b-day girl and for added 3D effect. This was for a repeat client who was having a Art Museum tour as her theme party. Simple but cute.

Made this for a boy turning 13. His party was a paintball party so I put splatters all over and made him hiding behind a broken wall. He loves owls so I put one perched atop the wall with paint splatters too. The design was my sons. I was stumped. He is so creative. I am proud.

This is one I have been dying to make and finally got to it! Baked a 9x13 and cut it in half, torted and stacked 3 layers, then carved to shape. Covered in fondant, made markings with veining tool, used back of tip for the scales, and toothpick for the fins and tail. Used picture of real trout for color guide. Used green luster dust, for top, pale yellow for lower middle and super pearl for bottom. Used carnation dust for center band. Layered all colors for tail and top fins.

Made this for my daughter's 6th birthday, design matches invitations. Cakes are covered in MMF & painted with Americolor gel pastes. Had issues with the straps and ended making them out of cardboard and wire covered in ribbon. This was VERY time consuming because of the painting.

Lemon cake w/ lemon cream cheese frosting and strawberry whipped cream filling. Hand painted fondant accents. She came to visit us for a week and this is the flavor she requested. The design was up to me.

Offset Square Tiers, September 2005. Three square cakes, with a 3" difference in size (6", 9" and 12"). Note to fellow decorators: Offset squares like these should be FOUR inches different in size -- or corners hang off tiers underneath! Largest cake is carrot with whipped white chocolate ganache and cream cheese fillings. Top two are dummies. All were covered with buttercream and fondant. Details were royal icing, then painted with metallic dust mixed with clear alcohol.

This was my first attempt at MMF. It was also my first time painting flowers with buttercream. I liked the outcome!

Chocolate cake with bc icing. Another great idea taken from Cakecentral.com! I had a customer order a horse cake for her daughter's 8th birthday. The daughter loves paint horses so this is what I did. The horse didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I tried the FBCT but it broke and I didn't have time to make another one. I ended up freehanding it right onto the cake and it was quite the challenge. Urgh! The customer was very excited when she saw it and that is all that matters. :-)

I borrowed the idea from TALMAS, who is a wonderful artist. I have so much learning to do. It is covered in Fondant and painted with icing. The sad looking man was drawn with an edible marker.

Just finished this one and hope it makes the drive across town to the party! It's chocolate/mocha cake with chocolate truffle filling, MMF marblized and painted. The idea was shamelessly stolen from the amazing "Cakes to Dream On" by Collette Peters. Hers looked better but I get to eat mine.

This cake is covered in off-white fondant and hand painted with streaks of peach and pink to give it a shell coloring. The "pearl" is just a ball of fondant set on top of the cake.

This was created for my artist potluck for our meet and greet prior to my next art show opening. It is a single layer torted, raspberry filled dark chocolate cake. With hand painted fondant imitation wood palette based on one of my old palettes. It has buttercream paint dabs, and 50/50 gumpaste/fondant brush. Your honest and open critique is always appreciated!

This was for my girl's combined birthday party - they are now 9 & 4. We wanted to try something different so after going through pictures on cc and many books - this is what we came up with. This one was hard to cut, we all really loved it. I drew a lot of inspiration from Collette. It's all mmf and painted. The spirals are wires with color flow dots, gumpaste bows and roses. Lots of fun to do. Thanks for looking

I've been wanting to make this cake since the moment I saw Getfrosted's amazing paint can cake!! My friend has been painting her house and is totally sick of paint - so, I made her a paint cake!!! I'm sure she'll appreciate the cake - even though she probably never wants to see a can of paint again!!
Buttercream frosting with fondant accents. The paint brushes are chocolate made with a mold. Getfrosted - thanks for the inspiration!!
