The customer wanted a cake with flowers and color to surprise his girfriend at work. I've been seeing ombre cakes around the web lately and this was my chance to make one! It was a lot of work rolling, cutting and ruffling all those little ruffles with a toothpick. I actually had a little blister when I was done! Will definitely do this again with more colors but next time I'm going with BIGGER ruffles! Haha

Birthday cake for a friend in a nice juicy purple. Better pics exist, but they're being held hostage on my husband's camera. This was my first attempt at using an airbrush, and yes I did spray so much on the top tier that it was still wet 24 hours later. Haha! It was inspired by a Maggie Austin design, and I found a tutorial for the ruffles on the "Call me Cupcake!" blog. The flowers were made with the new wilton flower kit. TFL!

This cake was for a friends baby shower. I was obviousely inspired by the many ruffle cakes here on CC but the one that convinced me to try it was a two-tiered one by CakeSue. This is a 6 inch round cake with 5 , 1 inch layers inside. Each layer is also a shade of pink to match the change in color of the outside.

The flower on top is my fantasy peony, made with a 5 petal cutter and no wires. I plan on writing up a tutorial on the flower because it doesn't require too many tools.
Hopefully CC will let me upload a pic of the inside as well as the outside.

This cake was a surprise for a woman who designs and sews (and wears) very chic and trendy clothes. The dress on the dressmaker's form is a copy of one of her actual designs, complete with draping in the front and bold, gold sequins across the back (you can see a bit of the sequins in this angled photo). I added a pair of platform shoes to match. A few details - the thimble, scissors and golden needle with blue thread which wraps around the top tier - represent the sewing she does, but in a clean, modern way that matches her style. I love the back of the dress/cake. TFL.

This was for my son-in-law's birthday. Carrot cake with cinnamon cream cheese frosting. The ruffles were done in buttercream. I didn't use any food coloring on it, the graduating shades were achieved by adding cinnamon and cocoa powder. TFL!

My first cake for 2012! The client wanted the top tier to be all in buttercream because it was going to be the smash cake. So, we decided to do the ombre rosettes. The ombre theme was then carried through the diamond pattern in the bottom tier. The flower design was inspired by the invitation, as seen on one of the pictures. The big butterfly was cut with the Cricut cake (my first time to use it!) :) I was told that the celebrants favorite toy is her pink rubber duckie, hence I made it as a topper. Yes, she is wearing pearls :)

I made this cake for my daughter's 27th birthday. I tried out three new things I had never done before, ruffles, ombre pattern, and a gumpaste peony. She did the photography. The inside is lemon cake with raspberry filling, and cream cheese icing.

Ombre wedding cake "dummy" for a bridal show in less than 3 weeks. I loved it...my husband on the other hand said "you like that? people will like that?", LOL. I hope that you like it. 4/6/8. Took 3 hours to decorate this. Florist making flowers for the top.

Sorry that this photo is so blurry...the other photos are better! Cake trio for my daughter's first birthday party to go with a "Shabby Chic" theme. I created cakes for the adults (the green one is chocolate with salted caramel buttercream, and the pink one is yellow with raspberry buttercream) and a little 4 inch "smash cake" for my daughter (white cake with chocolate frosting). The green one has pearl necklaces draped all down the backside of the cake, and they have gumpaste and dragee brooches on the front. The pink cake has an ombre effect--I took strips of varying colors of pink and used my stitching tool to make them look like strips of fabric. The flowers on the top are real (a ranuncula and English rose). The ivory cake has a gumpaste bunny on the top (which is my daughter's nickname). Thanks for looking!

My first frill/ruffle cake, designed to be kind of like a Spanish inspired skirt with lots of layers of ruffles. The fan was made out of gumpaste. Loved the outcome of the cake

Her Bday always falls on superbowl Sunday and we LOVE the Patriots! I played with the petal effect, a little ombre, and took at least 4 tries at getting the face on my emblem just right"! It is a white chocolate cake, with chambord SMBC, alternating with raspberry fill and whipped white choc ganache...tasted good, couldn't get us the win though! =)

I have a cake I'm doing in March that I wanted to do a practice run on since I haven't yet done the ruffle technique. I used a 5 petal cutter & a ball tool to thin the edges of each petal. Thank you for looking :) Here's the link to the tutorial - http://cakecentral.com/tutorial/petal-cake Itried to post it in the comments, but wasn't able too

A vanilla cake, filled with strawberry butter cream, and iced with white chocolate ganache. I wrapped the Barbie in plastic wrap before I put her in the cake. This one was fun, I just now wish I had committed more to the ombre look with the purple ruffles.
