This is the main cake for a child's 1-year-old undersea themed birthday party. (The smash cake that goes along with it is posted separately.) Iced in IMBC and covered with fondant accents. You may recognize the Sculpey mold for many of the sea creatures, but others are freehand and modeled after notmymum's cute creatures. The gumpaste mermaid keepsake sits on a fondant-covered foam rock, and was made with the help of Aine2's face and hand tutorials. Good old cookie crumbs for sand

This cake has been my most unusual request. They wanted an octopus with a magnifying glass, in the ocean on the beach with a lei and a palm tree. Wheee So what do you think?

This was for a 6 year old's birthday. They had asked for a beach theme. Everything was edible except the umbrella. The sides were adorned with decorations like fish and even a 3d shark fin coming out of the top of the bottom tier. This was a chocolate fudge cake with butter vanilla buttercream and mmf. The "sand" was brown sugar secured with piping gel to the fondant. The coral, octopus and shark fin were gumpaste.

This is a 12inch base with a 10inch top, marbled fondant. The Octopus is hand molded, with most of the other sea creatures from molds or cutters, and the hand painting added in to mix up the colours and hopefully make it more 3 dimensional. Was told party colours were green and orange, so focused on them while trying to balance the colours with the theme.
This is the 3rd of 3 cakes miraculously completed in 4 evenings, not sure how I managed that! :D

We had a small accident with the shark's teeth. He wasn't completely dry yet when we tried to put him on the cake. Shark, crabs, starfish, stingray and turtle are fondant and gumpaste. The fish and other decorations are buttercream. The "sand" is graham cracker crumbs. Rocks are marbled fondant.

This is the cake for my son's first birthday. It is in the form of his favorite stuffed animal. The Octopus is made out of Red Velvet Cake (a big hit when you are cutting into a cake in front of a bunch of little boys) and Rice-Crispie Treats (legs). The blue portion is vanilla cake.

I made this for my MIL's Birthday in 2005, long before I ever knew what fondant was. White cake with vanilla BC and coconut for rice. California rolls used Mike & Ike's & Fruit Roll Up. Tamago was sliced pineapple, salmon was cantaloupe with piped BC (#1 tip). Nori is black bubble tape gum. Roe was large pearl tapioca with red food coloring and a mini lime candy slice, octopus and other fish are a variety of Swedish Fish and gummy candy. Soy sauce is chocolate fruit dip. Ginger is peach salt water taffy rolled very thin. Wasabi is lime tootsie roll. Chopsticks are Italian breadsticks.

I had a ball making this one. Making all the sea creatures was very time consuming but fun. Used the Wilton spray paint (blue) for the color & thought it turned out great. My first time to use chocolate molds and I loved it. Didn't realize it was so easy. Used on the shells, starfish & dolphins

Rock is RCT covered in fondant. Marble cake with BC and fondant accents. My first time making a mermaid, it was fun, but could use some work, any hints or tips are more than welcome! TFL

This was for a friend's 8 year old son who had a scuba party...he needed a gluten free cake so it was a first for me. Cake was gluten-free vanilla, oreo filling, vanilla butter cream frosting. The creatures, seadweed, diver, etc. all made from fondant - shells are white chocolate. This was one of my favorite cakes to make to date! Thanks to all the inspiration on this site for ideas...I love CC!!! TFL

As always, inspired by many cakes here on CC. Little girl loves fairies and dolphins at an "Under the Sea" themed party. 50/50 gumpaste and fondant for all characters. Fairy looks like birthday girl and is feeding dolphin grapes because when she gets in the pool she pretends to be a dolphin while her mom throws her grapes.

This was for a pool party so thought it was a good chance to have a go at one of Debbie Browns fantastic creations. The "sand" was made by mixing royal icing, caramel brown food colour and raw sugar together.

This was for a 4 year old B-Day. I had the cake all planned and the mom in conversation said that the little girl is telling everyone that shamu was jumping out of her cake, so the whole design changed, I guess we've all had that happen.
