This is my son's entry in the fair for children's decorated cupcake. He made the chocolate buttermilk cupcakes from scratch (he's 9) and iced in buttercream, added royal icing baby bluebirds and chinese noodles for a nest. The picture does this cupcake no justice! They are so cute!

This little chicken is made from 3 'cakes' from the Wilton mini balloon pan with a mini cupcake for the head. She is sitting on a chocolate 6" nest. All buttercream except for her face and her little chick and egg beside her.

Grooms cake accompanying the Pinecone Wedding cake today; tree and birds are sugar, top half of the egg is cake, all covered in fondant. Nest around is fondant with taped pieces sticking out around for a more "nesty" look!

Fondant-covered chocolate oval cake with doves and egg made of fondant also. The nest is rice pasta so that everything on the cake is entirely edible.

Need some practice with the scrolls! My bird looks like a platypus but it was kinda fun to do and overall, usually being very critical of myself, I am pleased with it. The bird/nest was too high and I couldn't close the cake box top! The eggs are Cadbury Mini-Eggs.

This cake was my 7 yr. old daughter's first "solo" cake! She used chocolate covered pretzels (which we made together) to build the nest. She also used marshmallow chicks, and candy-covered chocolate eggs. She can't wait for our guests to see it at Easter dinner! (PS - she also made up the "title" for this cake!)

I made this cake for another shower (while on "vacation"). I got the idea from Adarabia, all credit to her :) This cake was a 10 inch chocolate cake with chocolate hazelnut filling. All decorations are fondant and used super pearl dust on the birds for some sparkle :) TFL!

This is a practice cake I did to practice the stringwork. I made the birds nest out of gum paste and had nothing to use it for. The daisies are gumpaste also. Lemon Cream Cheese frosting, I love the VIVA paper towel trick, I am skeptical no more!

My daughter asked for a nest cake for her 6th "Bird-Day" party. She was partial to chickens because of her pet Mrs. Cluckers. The eggs were a nightmare for my husband and I because we used white "melts" that I thought were white chocolate to coat the Cadbury creme eggs, and the melts kept going lumpy. I wanted to add icing ribbons, bits of string, and flowers to look like a bird had collected them for the nest, but I ran out of time due to the above problem.

This cake was inspired by a Debbie Brown book. I chose to alter it a bit as I needed to make a much bigger cake than what was called for and I had special critter requests. The cake consists of six 6" torted cakes with Raspberry filling and Butter Cream, covered in MMF. All decorations are MMF too!

Baked this cake for my son's 7th birthday. Vanilla cake with lychees fillings, iced with buttercream. Also added a nest top with 7 dino chocolate eggs. Spikes and toe nails are sugarised candies. The kids were so thrilled with the dino cake and I had lots of fun decorating it.

This cake has hundreds of tiny flowers. Each one was individually cut, each petal was thinned with a small ball tool. Probably took me 40 hours to do this cake. There is a birds nest on top with 4 little eggs in it.

I filled the nest with rose petals, then broke up a GP leaf and sprinkled it in. The eggs are made of GP.

The Shaker Nature Center is having a 40th "B'earthday" party and they asked for donated centerpiece cakes. Their logo is the blue heron. They're going to judge the cakes, too. The nest is made from chocolate covered pretzels and shredded wheat. The eggs, heron chick, rocks, cattails, and sign are fondant. The swamp grass is plastic.

For my son's third birthday party, he loves the color orange, everything about this cake was orange, it is a yellow cake dyed orange. It is also a dairy and egg free cake (except for the candy melts) due to his allergies. The nests are made of chocolate covered pretzels with cake ball dinosaur "eggs".

This was fun...the birthday was at a nature preserve and the theme was birds. I was given free reign and I came up with this. The egg and nest are rice crispy treats. the egg was covered in fondant and the nest in melted chocolate and pretzels. The lettering was my husband's idea - melted chocolate made to look like twigs.

This is a cake I entered in a local competition. The theme was "A Tribute to Mom" The bottom tier represents preparation for motherhood, while we are pregnant, or in the duck's case, wait for the eggs to hatch. The middle section, which takes up the most space, is the time we spend caring for our children and teaching them to prepare for being an adult. The top of the cake is an empty nest, which represents when our children go out on their own.

These are cupcakes that I threw together for my husband's office. They are supposed to be bird's nests. I tried using a grass-tip at first and didn't like the way that looked. So, then I used a star tip and built up a nest in a spiral formation. I used Peeps for the birds and Jelly Bellies for the eggs. I also used giant malted-milk ball eggs. For the Easter grass it is edible grass that you can buy from Orientaltrading.com and it comes in yellow, green, and pink. It doesn't taste good, but it's cool

I made this cake over 2 years ago. It was what first started my decorating "hobby" craze. I'm just adding it to my photos now. I used the 3-d duck pan and carved the shape from that. I can certainly see a big improvement since this cake! All those stars!! I don't think I've done a cake with stars since!! Thanks for looking and be kind!

This was an order for an engagement party centrepiece (big cake done by a family member). Baked in a pyrex pudding bowl. Covered in chocolate BC and matchmaker chocolate sticks. Lovebirds and leaves made from fondant. Had great fun doing this - design from book "Perfect Party Cakes" by Carol Deacon.

This is a family cake done by my two older daughters (8 and 5 y o) and me, for my youngest who will be 3 tomorrow!
It's all covered and decorated in MMF, using PME cutters. It's a lot of fun doing it with the girls :-)
I love the little frog that my eldest made, so I had to show it to you in detail!
I'd like to thank princesscris and gourmettiger, CC girls, whose cakes have inspired me :-)

This cake is of a bird sitting on a nest. I used the rubber ducky cake pan for the bird and a round pan for the nest. I finished the nest with pretzel sticks and silk greenery.
