I made this for my niece, who is having an American Idol karaoke party. I copied the basic design from a napkin from Birthday Express. It is all buttercream, except for the logo, which is royal icing, and the black, which is tinted chocolate icing. I am pleased with it, even though the color weren't exactly what I was going for.

I used 3 boxes French White Cake, and used blue food paste to make swirls in it. The filling is chocolate pudding with cool whip, and I used a simple syrup to keep it moist and fresh until Saturday...I used Wilton's ready to mix buttercream icing, sprayed the sides blue with the wilton spray paint, and made the music notes out of royal icing, that accidentally got left in the oven when we were preheating for something else, but actually it worked to our advantage because they are like hard as candy...

A friend wanted this for her DJ boyfriend, and this was definitely a first for me! I used fondant for all of the decorations, and just made two 8" rounds, and placed them side by side. For the microphone, I used Rice Krispie treats, and then covered it with fondant, and painted it with Luster Dust. She wanted a crab around because he sometimes gets "crabby"...

Star shaped cake with cheetah pattern in buttercream. Fondant stars, CD and microphone. The lines are suppose to be in the pattern, although I think it looks more like a cracked giraffe.

This cake was made for a young lady who loves to sing. Her mother asked me to do something music related, and since her daugther enjoyed singing so much I decided to put a microphone on top of her birthday cake. The mic is made with rice krispie treats covered in MMF. She loved her cake!

I made this cake for DH's show at the Shrine on St. Patrick's day. The top tier is lemon with raspberry filling, the middle tier is french vanilla with green BC filling and the bottom tier is chocolate with french vanilla pudding filling. I made the microphone out of a toy that I covered in fondant. All accents are fondant.

A birthday cake for a party held at a karaoke bar. The microphone is made from four mini cupcakes. The cupcake bottoms are the handle, and two of the tops are the silver ball. I frosted it, froze it for an hour or so, then transferred it onto the cake.

These are microphones to go along with the American Idol cake I did. I had problems getting my cupcakes to rise very much in these ice cream cones so I baked a little bit in the ice cream cones and then made regular cupcakes in the Wilton silicone baking cups (which are just the right size) and flipped them over to put on top of the cones. That gave the height that I wanted for the microphones. Then they are just frosted with buttercream icing.

Having all boys I was unaware of the Cheetah girls. however thanks to modthyrth and cakesbyallison i was able to pull this off. The leopard spots were brown paste mixed with gold dust (thanks paoloscakes). The glass and microphone are 50/50 gumpaste fondant. AND (yay for me) first time ever with fondant cake no tears, bumps, snags, or creases! Hooray!!!

10-inch round, white cake with chocolate whipped cream filling. Most of it is decorated with butter cream or royal icing. Sugar cookie ice skates. The microphone is fondant. Gumpaste stars. I would have really liked how this turned out more if I had left the red stripe off underneath the edible image! :(

Thanks to Antonia74 for the inspiration for the cookie skates. Thanks to many CC'ers for ideas!
