This is Lightning McQueen from the Disney movie Cars. I made this cake for my son's 2nd birthday this past weekend. He is all about Cars (the movie) right now and he LOVED this cake. His reaction to it is was priceless! It is actually a red velvet cake made in the 3d Car cruiser cake pan. It iced in buttercream with fondant accents. The wheels are mini donuts covered in fondant. This cake actually looked bettter in person. I think the flash of the camera highlights all the flaws.
Thanks for looking

The Wilton Cake Pan makes it very hard to take any credit for such a simple cake. Just followed the concept of the picture. Cake was French Vanilla with strawberry filling.

Chocolate cake, BC icing, top done with star tip. (First attempt at this.) My 6 yr old was more than thrilled with his cake. I was so glad it turned out as well as it did. The cake itself was pretty easy to do once I had the outline of the car. Although the photo shows there were some small "spaces" in the road, noone could see them looking at the cake.. ;) I think my camera is too good for my own good. lol

Second shot of cake with candles. "Happy Birthday Brandon" was piped around the side of the cake which I had frosted with a "color swirl" effect. (Something I just thought looked cool LOL)

I was happy with the improvement on this cake, compared to my first go. still a fiddly one to do though - very time consuming.

Buttercream with fondant cutouts. I gained my inspiration from the many other Lightning McQueen cakes on this site! I'm still getting used to BC and fondant but I think I'm gaining in confidence! Thanks for looking.

Cute little car! I really hate trying to do character cakes because I know I will never get the detail or expression just right - kids are very observant and notice these things! I thought about adding the Rust-eze logo on the hood, but remembered it was for a 4 year old who probably wouldn't care. Luckily, he loved it! His sister got the Cozy COne Motel cake with Sally - posting next.

This was made for a birthday party. It's the first sheet cake I've ever made so I did have a hard time stacking them. I did carve out the car. My dh helped with that.

McQueen was sculpted out of a loaf. He sits atop an 8" round and 10" square. I left the roadway empty because the mom who purchased the cake wanted space for more cars. This is all bc.

I made this for my son's 5th birthday party. It was a two-layer almond sour cream cake with chocolate cream cheese icing. The mountain is rice crispy treats covered with fondant. I wanted to try to make a 3D cake of Lightning to put on here - but my son wanted all of Lightning's friends on the cake - which is way beyond my current talent level... hahaha.

Lightning McQueen & Tow Mater sculpted cakes, covered in MMF on top of a 9" round covered in BC...... Fondant rocks. I'm happy with it how it turned out but my MMF keeps getting droopy after refrigeration which is frustrating, so I've been limited on what I can fill these types of cakes with.

This is a birthday cake for a coworker's son. I sure hope she likes it. It didn't turn out as well as I hoped. The cake is iced in crusting cream cheese icing. Tires are fondant and the spoiler is a graham cracker.

Another Lightning McQueen Cars cake! I took several ideas from the CC website and kinda put them together. And I apologize, but I can't remember who, but there were three of you! And might I add that this was a very labor intensive cake to decorate!!!! Thanks for looking.

I made this for my 5 year old grandson's birthday. He had to have the race track and McQueen so I put Mcqueen on a pedestal in the center of the track. I used a combination of fondant, buttercream icing and royal icing to make these cakes. The small cars used in this were presents to the birthday boy when the day was done.

FBCT..first attempt at "Lightning". I think I made my black too thin 'cause even after being in the freezer obernight it stuck to the paper when I tried to pull it off, hence the big fat tires.

MMF. I put too much Crisco in the red and smudged the black everywhere. But all in all, my son loved it!

Lightning McQueen cake done for a 6 year olds birthday party. I wish I had something in here for scale because he was a monster. I cut him from my 12 x 18 pan and he went end to end! Chocolate cake, all buttercream icing. He was quite the challenge, but it was fun to see him come together as I iced him piece by piece.

Bottom cake is rainbow chip in an 11x15 pan, and the car is chocolate cake in the Wilton Car pan. All decorated with buttercream except for the tires on the car. Those are made with York Peppermint Patties.
