All buttercream on 11x15 cake. I enlarged a picture of Mario and Luigi, traced the outline on with a toothpick, then free-handed their faces / clothes, etc.

This was for my 4 year old's birthday. It was a very rushed cake so I'm not totally pleased. Also, this was the first time I made SMBC and decorated with it, so I didn't get a very smooth finish at all. I need to practice more with that. The cake was French Vanilla with SMBC, the little top part was strawberry cake, and the characters were chocolate transfers. I meant to write the sign with icing, but DH thought I was done and tossed it, so I wrote with piping gel, but it ran together. Oh well-live & learn!

Cake is yellow cake with MM fondant. The Ghost is styrofoam covered with fondant. If I were to do it again I would do the ghost with Rice Krispies and fondant. I modeled the car somewhat after the Babar car cake in Debbie Brown's Character cake book. Of course I had to make it more race carish. This is my first carved cake. Made for my BIL. He loved it.

This cake has mint icing and devil's food cake on the inside. (Think of it as eating a thin mint girl scout cake) Yum!

I made this one for my son who loves all the super mario bros. games. I air brushed the cake and the stars are sugar cookies covered with icing and yellow cake glitter. I sculpted Mario out of clay, fired and painted him so my son could keep him.

The Luigi figure is a toy figurine, the fence and trees are plastic pieces. The bananas, shells, and stars are all made from fondant. This was only my 3rd cake outside of classes. I really like using the airmaster, but haven't quite got the technique down yet.

This one was a challenge! The b-day boy wanted screen shots of his favorate games. (4 of them) and wanted the Nintendo hand held paddle. (I'm not sure what you call it.) Anyway, I had fun making it since I grew up with these games and played the "old" Nintendo. I was surprised that kids still like to play the old games. It was Choc. cake w/BC icing. Since I didn't want to spend hours to make each screen shot, I chose certain areas of the game to try to keep it simple. The teenagers loved the cake!

I made these cakes for my friend. We all chipped in to get him the only thing that he wanted - a Nintendo DS so I stuck with a Nintendo theme. Had some trouble with the mushroom because the stalk I made out of cake couldn't support the weight of the top so after the bottom cake was crushed to death I replaced it with a plastic tupperware container. The star and goomba are also small cakes.

This is a practice cake. I wanted to try doing a transfer using buttercream frosting. The cake is about 4 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches tall. The cake wasn't completly cool (i wont do that again) so the frosting started to melt but it turned out ok.
What do you think?

This is a double chocolate cake covered in fondant and a buttercream border. The road is also made of fondant wth green sprinkles as grass. I gave up half way while making this cake it was looking awful. At the end the cake turned out ok. There are lots of things I wish I've done different.
Thanks for looking!

Thrown together last minute for our friends son, everything but the Mario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi are made out of gumpaste. Cake is from Costco, horrible lop-sided cake, but it looked cute!

This cake is a 10" oval layer over a 13" oval layer. I had so much fun making this and I was so happy at how it turned out that I have been giddy trying to get it uploaded. I know that Mario isn't very popular (there is not even a whole page of Mario pics in the gallery), but the little boy and his parents loved it. Cake is half choc. half white (lining up the layers was fun...yeah, right!). I took pictures as I made this one bc he looked so goofy coming together!!! Thanks for looking!

This came off of one of the Mario Brothers' games. I used my Kopykake projector for this one. I had airbrushed the background color, but it cracked really bad. So, I had to come back and filll in the blue and green to cover the cracks. What a pain!! It was a big hit though!
