Nobody around here really celebrates Mardi Gras, so I had to do a bit of research online for this Birthday Cake. I learned all about the King Cakes, beads and the 3 colours. (Makes me want to visit New Orleans next year!!)

I made the masks first out of gumpaste and detailed with tiny silver dragees. I used real ribbon for the masks.

Liked the idea of the harlequin pattern, so that was all done in fondant diamonds with larger silver dragees for detail. I copied the rope border from a cake found online.

This was my first tier'd cake. It was for a birthday girl with a Mardi Gras theme. The masks on top of the cake are real ceramic masks that I decorated with real feathers.

This is a Mardi Gras cake that I made at the last minute after my bite-size cakes flopped. I'm pretty happy with it. I need to work on my skills at filling in large spaces with icing but other than that I'm happy with it.

This is my first topsy-turvy cake. It is covered in fondant. The bottom tier is chocolate and the top two layers are yellow butter. The masks are handmade from fondant and painted with luster dusts. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. The birthday girl was really excited about it!

12,8 & 6 round w/BC. Mask, Feathers & Balls made from Fondant. Feathers and Balls painted w/Super Pearl Dust. First time doing a stacked cake like this. Was very nervous about setting it up. It appears to be leaning to the right a little in the picture but in person it did not look like that. Now that I am looking at the pic I am so nervous...........

This was my first fondant cake, and also the first time I had used powdered gold and silver. The layers are with Wilton's 7"-11"-15" contour pan set. The stars are fondant stuck on bamboo twigs from the floral shop. Mardi Gras beads serve as borders around each base.

Gumpaste mask in the shape of "50" is painted with confectioner's glaze mixed with European Cake Gallery's granular sparkle colors. Beads are hand-rolled fondant balls, strung together and painted with straight confectioner's glaze for shine. Real feathers. Buttercream cake with fondant accents.

First of all, I would like to thank all of the other members who put their pictures of Mardi Gras cakes on here. They were all the inspiration. The bottom layer is a chocolate cake and was baked in the 13"oval pan. The top cake is a white mix but I tinted it in the Mardi Gras colors and made it in my homemade checker board pan. The beads and the crown are not edible.

This is a cake I did for my work. We had a goodbye party of sorts since we are all moving to either different floors in our building or another building completely (we just had a re-org). So we had a Fat February party. LOL This is a 10/8 tiered; bottom is chocolate, top is yellow, both iced in BC with fondant accents painted with gold luster dust. Mask is made of gum paste, but had real feathers and ribbon for accents.

This is my 1st first cake. It might not have turned out the way I wanted it. I am still in but, I was proud of myself. I need more practice & can't wait to do another one. I was very proud of my first atempt ever on the fondant roses. I love this site btw. You all have a lot of talent!! Hope to be half as good someday! Thank you for looking.

Plain and simple birthday for a small group. Customer like the mardi gras idea, and saints/fleur de lis, but couldnt decide which, so I did the fleur de lis and used mardi gras colors. All buttercream, sprinkled with purple/gold/green glitter

This cake was made for a Purim themed birthday party. Purim is a Jewish holiday celebrating the victory of Queen Esther and the Jewish people over Haman's evil decree to kill them. The colors and some symbols are similar to Mardi Gras. The Birthday message is on a Megillah scroll, which normally holds the scroll of the book of Esther. This was also my first tiered cake (6", 8"). I borrowed many elements from others at CC. Thank you Antonia74, LacieLou76, and mommabear for your inspiration!

So- some friends called yesterday afternoon and invited us to fat tuesday dinner and I offered to bring dessert. I literally had to look through my pantry and come up with this thing in 2 hours. Luckily I had a box of strawberyy cake mix and some cream cheese to make frosting with. I was not at all impressed with my results, but they were glad I brought it anyways.
