Boy, this one needs a lot of changing. I needed to do his antlers in royal icing and stupid me used buttercream and his nose is all wrong, crooked eyes..the only thing I half-way like is the back board... lol. Luckily it was just practice.

Red Velvet cake with buttercream icing. Ears and nose are made from scrap cake and iced in buttercream. Eyes are chocolate candy. Blood is instant cheesecake pudding tinted with red and maroon coloring. I used an idea found in a Wilton Yearbook and re-worked it. The cake was made in the wilton sportsball mold.

I thought I was going along pretty good on this one til I realized that I forgot to cover the antlers in royal icing! In a pinch, I covered them in fondant, we'll see how it holds up. His nose is a little too big, but beyond that I'm very pleased for my first try with this. I'm really enjoying experimenting with sculpting cake! Thanks for looking!

This was SO much fun! The Groom was from Wisconsin & the Bride surprised him with this cake! It's all buttercream & most is smoothed-out with a slightly wet, large paintbrush. Thanks for looking! :D

Yes... I live in Texas. Red velvet cake with strawberry filling (made from two football pans). Head, arms, legs, tail from gumpaste. MMF covered body and appendages. I had to support the bottle with some popsicle sticks. I "glued" the bottle to them with melted candy. Fun cake. Only in the South.

The Mom found a cake at trulyspecialcakes.com and asked me to do something similar for her 2 kids. I tried to make each of them a little different. Thanks for looking! Oh, the soccer balls are those little sugar candies you can buy at the grocery store.

Jack's head is cake from the sports ball pan. Shoulders are an 8" round cut in half and standing up side by side. Stripes are painted with silver luster dust. Neck is cardboard paper roll. Everything is frosted in buttercream. Bats wings are paper. Totally inspired by MelC's version.

I've had a lot of requests for the deer head cake from people who were having small parties, so I've scaled down the deer head cake. This cake is sitting on a quarter sheet cake board, just to give you a size reference. I made 1 half sheet cake layer and was able to cut out all of the pieces I needed, with lots of left overs. The whole cake is chocolate, iced in BC and airbrushed. The antlers are a child-sized wire hanger, cut and covered w/fondant, then airbrushed as well.

This is my attempt at a deer's head...it was for my son's groom's cake last weekend. It was so frustrating...my son was even over here working on it the day before his wedding! He said it was pretty bad he had to work on his own cake for his wedding! My thanks go out to all the CC people that sent me instructions or talked my through this on the phone...even though it wasn't nearly as good as all of theirs...THANK YOU ALL! My husband nicknamed this "Bullwinkle"!

I did this for my father in laws birthday. After I took the picture I went back and used the grass tip on the eyebrows and ear hair; it made it look better, but I didn't have my camera.

SEVERAL of you inspired this one. This was my first time for fondant heads and figures (or body parts!!) and I had a GREAT time making it. I put fondant through my (clean) garlic press to make the hair! This was a 10" cake that could have been a lot bigger-I almost ran out of room and put the girl's name on the side.

I done this for my neighbor/friend next door for her birthday. She's a hairdresser whose had her own shop for 25 years and has had to get out of it, but misses it dearly. She does all my perms tho and I don't know what I would do without her. When I took this cake over to her house, she laughed so hard, she about peed her pants. She just loved it. I so enjoy doing cakes, but I'm not so sure I don't enjoy folks reactions to their cakes even more. Thanks for taking time to view my pic.

OK I now know why all the pictures of the "deer mounted heads" were all laying down lol My dad was very much into deer. So I looked for anything that included deer. I got this idea from CC and thought hmmm I should try that. HAHA well like I said I now know why they were laying down. I started out with great intentions of having this head stand. But alas the gum paste ears were too heavy so I had to lay him down. I will try it again someday. I will post a picture of finished head

I made this cake in addition to the wedding cake. I set it on the head table and they didn't know about it until they sat down. They loved it (so did the wedding party!).
