I think this is the 1st time I used fondant on a cake. This cake was for a 'tween' girl's birthday. They wanted something 'girly', and DID NOT want it to say 'Happy Birthday'. I used some kind of candy clay kit to make the nail polish, glasses, lipstick and phone. I can definitely say I am not too fond of working with fondant.

This is my first attempt at icing a petal cake. It's not as easy to ice the sides as I thought it would be...anyway, this cake was a big experiment. I tried out my #95 on the bottom border and really like the frilled top/ribbed bottom effect that it had. I used my #74 leaf tip for the lines and rosettes. Also, I tried using a #63 for the center flower's petals with a #347 for the stamen. My icing had air bubbles, so try to ignore that---I figured it didn't matter since it was a practice cake.

When this cake was ordered, the birthday girl was having a hard time deciding between this theme, and softball. The Mom was hoping I would say I couldn't do one or the other to help decide. (No such luck!) This is what was easier for the Mom to plan the party around...a girly, foo foo, make up party. The design is a FBCT, made up of several pictures put together. The shoe and the dress are based on images from tlnewman, Thank You! (For more info, see "My find at Dollar Tree" forum.)

I did this cake for my husband's district manager, Kim. She always seems to miss cake day at my husband's store, so I made her a cake of her own. It's a mini-tiered cake (2", 3", 4", 5") with an Indonesian type design that I saw on a cake someone else on this website made a few weeks ago. It was my first time to do a lot of decoration on the side of a cake.

My daughter's only wish was that she had a BIG cake and it had to be Winx Club in some way! I wanted it to be very girly just like her - 6in lemon top tier, 8in chocolate middle tier and the 10in bottom tier is strawberry - all from scratch with matching buttercream fillings. Whole cake is covered in homemade rolled fondant with edible disco glitter on the cut-outs and the wired topper. Winx fairies were bought (as part of her birthday gifts!). Borders are royal icing.

This was for a 9-year-old girly-girl ballet dancer. It's not my favorite cake, I can see many flaws, but the grandmother (who ordered it) called today and told me the birthday girl squealed and screamed and jumped up and down when she saw it! She has saved the ballet shoes from the top (that's supposed to be a little stage they're pirouetting on -- with the curtain pulled back and her name 'in lights'). She has also saved the ballet shoes, the pearls holding back the curtains and the roses, as keepsakes.

I needed a girly princess cake, 9in layered. I had a lot of help from people on here with ideas...thanks everyone:) I was going to buy the tiara but ran out of time and dollar store was closed! So I made it out of fondant! It could look a little better..but the little girl loved it. BC with fondant accents!

For my niece's 3rd birthday! White cake w/ BC and fondant accents. Used the Wilton ruffle board which I thought added alot to the look of the cake. My hello kitty had a pink dress and bow in her hair (in this pic) but the color faded within hours. That was disappointing! Thanks for looking!

This is marble cake with BC. I made this cake for someone through work and she was bringing her daughter to Libby Lu's at the Mall of American and wanted a dress-up theme. My husband came up with the idea of windows all around the cake representing different stores. We incorporated the birthday girl's name in the store names above the windows. I used a princess tiera cookie cutter for the iced cookies. The girls LOVED this cake and it was a huge hit.

My sister plays volleyball, softball, and basketball and wanted a cake that incorporated all of her activities. The cake is a vanilla butter cake with BC icing and fondant accents. The "pearls" around the bottom of the top tier are volleyballs and softballs.

I really love fondant. It is (usually) sooo easy to work with, especially for a novice decorator. Simple vanilla sponge cake for a naming ceremony for a relative's new baby.

Just another view.....further away, doesn't show all the flaws!! LOL

The 12' cake was chocolate fudge, the 10'cake was french vanilla, and the 8' cake was peanut butter. All was iced in crusting buttercream and smoothed with the Viva method. Accents were in rolled buttercream and the pink shoes on the bottom are melting chocolate froma mold. The only non edibles were the plasic high heel picks that I bought at a bakery supply store.

Based on design from another cc'er. Loved the frogs and they were so easy to make. The party theme was frogs and pink...just like the child's nursery. Made a coordinating smash cake with tiny chocolate molded green frogs too. Cake is iced in BC with fondant accents. Number is made from gumpaste. Name and bows are fondant.

This was my 2nd mother's b-day cake. She wanted it to be pink, green, and girly. The first cake I made when I recieved my luster dust. (There is barley any dust on the cake cause I was scarred that I was going to use it all, lol) First time making a butterlfy, although know I know how to make them now. Sadly the cake stand passed away a few days ago.

This cake was for one of my best friends' daughters' 1st birthday. (Whew, that was a mouthful..) This was my first attempt at fondant, as well as my first attempt at a mad-hatter cake. I think it turned out ok for someone who's never taken a class.
